Perfect for starter or small kitchens
I was outfitting a small kitchen for a townhouse where counter space was at a premium. This knife set was perfect! Good selection of essential knifes in a compact footprint, with easy access that is good looking. The self sharpening feature was a pleasant plus.

The set is compact to provide more counter space
I want sharp knives that hold their edge. These knives are just what I was looking for in a kitchen knife set. I am very happy with my purchase of this knife set.

Great knives......but one problem
This set was a Christmas present for my girlfriend. She LOVES them and, when I'm allowed to use them, LOL, so do I. They are incredibly sharp and should stay that way with the built-in sharpeners (SharpIN Technology). They are very well balanced and are even etched on the pommel with which knife it is (Bread, Chef, Paring, etc.) which is a very nice touch. Now the problem. The stainless steel trim around the self-sharpening slots for the Chef, Santuko, and Paring knives is simply stuck on with what appears to be double-sided tape and is already popping off after only two weeks of use. It in no way affects the knives or the sharpening function but does detract from the beauty of the set. I will hope that this is an isolated issue but it should be pointed out. I have only given four stars for appearance and quality due to this issue. Other than that, this is a five star set!

Love Caphalon products!!
I bought a set of knives for myself approximately a year ago and love them. Only set of knives that I found are in a block & easy to identify by name on handle. Love them so much I bought this set for my daughter and her husband for Christmas gift. Heavy duty and well made.

Excellent Value and Variety For Novice Cooks!
In exchange for my honest review, I was provided this product for free. I have a few Calphalon pots and pans that I swear by and use almost every single day, but I only recently discovered that they have knives, too! I am really happy with my experience of using this knife set in my cooking prep. I use the Santoku knife the most and it’s well-balanced and easy to manage. I used the bread knife on Thanksgiving on two baguettes for our guests, and it precision-sliced right through the tough crust. The knife block is skinny and takes up very little counter space in my already-teensy-tiny New York City kitchen. The built-in sharpening slots are an awesome feature that I think gives Calphalon an edge over similar products and competing brands, no pun intended :) The knives I owned before this were almost a year overdue for a sharpening, so I’m glad I don’t even have to think about it now. This knife set has just the right selection and versatility, too. Not too many, not too few.

Elegant and solid
It is slim, but doesn't sacrifice presence. The warm, rich brown of the block makes this an elegant looking set. I have had for about 2 months and the knives are as sharp as the first day I used them. I appreciate the self sharpening block as well. No complaints here.
