Disappointed customer service

The shoes are very comfortable and well made, I would give the shoes five stars, so the rating is just for the customer service. I bought the shoes half size larger than my usual size to compensate for the pointy tip - it doesn't seem to be necessary. So I called customer to make an exchange. However, Macy's doesn't offer the option of exchange anymore, now you have to return then rebuy. Therefore, I went to the store, return the shoes and asked the cashier to re-place the order for me so that I could still pay the original price. The cashier refused to re-place the order and said he could not do anything about the price. Well, Macy's is the only place nowadays which would not honor the original price for exchanged items, what a disappointment!
