Great machine but bad materials

Good things first: I love how the machine looks, I like that it's a boiler machine because it can heat up your cups and portafilter, the temperature of the coffee that comes out is just right and the espresso looks great. However, the coffee has a horrible plastic taste and smell. I followed the manual for my first use, rinsed the water tank and flushed the machine but my first coffee came out with that plastic smell. After the next few uses kept coming out with that weird taste, I flushed the machine again and gave the tank a thorough wash, the plastic smell and taste was fainter but persisted. I can only assume it's the water tank because every time I open the container I smell the same thing. After a couple of uses I attempted to clean the portafilter and noticed some stains inside that won't come off that weren't there before my first use. It's a shame because everything in the machine works well, but the cheap materials, especially the taste left by the water tank in the coffee, makes the experience underwhelming. If De'Longhi addresses these issues in the future, I would recommend getting this machine.

Whoa the saved money!!!

I bought this several months ago and I couldn’t be happier. This actually replaced a very expensive older model espresso machine and thank goodness the Delonghi didn’t fail me. I was on a budget and had to go with most affordable model and actually it has been amazing. I had my moneys worth within a couple weeks. I probably should have kept track of all the money I was saving by not going out to purchase my coffee. Two issues I have with this particular model; one- no accessories came with this. No frother cup, no shot collection cup and an extremely flimsy tamper. So I had to buy everything. So much for saving money. Two) within a few months of use it started to leak water. So I put a shot cup under boiler outlet and have to dump it before I pull my shots of coffee. I am a former barista and this machine puts out some crazy good coffee! Well worth the money. So my brother has the nicest most expensive manual Delonghi they sell and I have used it on several occasions. Even without all the “bells and whistles” I would still choose mine over those expensive ones. The ECP 3420 is just as good and very affordable! Now just to figure out if my 3420 will take a water tank filter, would be amazing!!!

Two broken machines

My first machine lasted less than four months before it started leaking. I contacted De'Longhi and they sent me a new machine. The new machine has lasted less than a month and it won't pull a correct espresso shot, by that I mean that it won't brew correctly and the espresso comes out with grounds still in it and the filter fills up with water. I've tried everything, descaling the machine, making sure I was using the right filter size. I'm so frustrated and feel like my money went to waste. One machine I was disappointed, two machines and now I'm angry.

great for a beginner

this is a great espresso machine for beginners. No matter what machine you start with, it will take some practice to pull the kind of shots you want. Be sure to invest in a good coffee bean grinder. I highly recommend this for an entry level machine. I've been using this DeLonghi for about 2 years now almost daily with no problems. I'm now ready to upgrade to a machine that has less plastic, a dual boiler, maybe a grinder, etc

not worth dont buy

I have been using this machine for one and a half month. When compared to Breville this machine is not worth. Despite having used Breville machine at my Bros house I went for a cheaper alternative. My mistake that I tried to be over-smart and went on to save money. The coffee made from Breville coffee machine is balanced thicker richer. The steaming wand is worthless it creates a bubble foam rather than a rich creamy foam. Though I dont know if the expensive Delonghi machine is equal to Breville.
