Macy's return policy needs exceptions

Purchased slippers for Christmas in September. Package arrived with outside box showing correct item and size. Opened box and saw shoe box with correct item and size. I did not look at the shoes. Today in December I go to wrap. The size of the shoe is supposed to be 9. The shoe size in the box is 6 1/2. Again both boxes have correct information. Called customer service and explained situation. I was told nothing could be done because 30 day return policy had expired. Nothing on the shipping detail sheet states 30 day return. It's only when you start the online return you receive this notice. Very dissappointed in Macy's. Exceptions should be made for situations like this. FYI, Macy's customer service is based out of the Philippines.
