Ideal for grinding small herbs and spices

I purchased this in the hopes of making mashed salsas but the interior and pestle are too refined and do not work like traditional Mexican molcajetes. This one is probably only good to mash avocado and make guacamole, but definitely not for the variety of salsas that we requiere in Mexican cuisine. If all you do is mash avocados or pulverize solids, this works but for a good toasted or fried mashed salsa, it doesn’t grind well and you have to use too much pressure and effort.

Love this but I thought it was a polished inside, but it’s not. All good I seasoned it with olive oil after I washed it. Will work great.

Heavy weight and large enough for guacamole!

I love this .when it comes to indian spices etc. you can you use this for any kind of salsa,making ginger,garlic and chili paste for curry's etc.i bought this for my son too for his new home .

This is machine-produced from granite, not igneous rock. Two major drawbacks: the shape of the bowl and the texture of the surfaces. The bowl does not really promote grinding; it really only supports stirring. And the granite does not have the "tooth" of volcanic rock, so it takes much more effort to pulp the various ingredients.
