Too hard to lace up

These are beautiful boots but I returned them because the laces are too difficult to tighten. I was looking for boots that zipped up at the side in the hope they would be easy to slip on and off but because there are no eyelets in the lace holes it is hard to do up and undo the laces so my plan was thwarted. Sad I am!
