Gold Wore Through in a Few Months - Unwearable

I received this as a gift from my husband. The gold plating over the silver was so thin that within a few months the pendant had tarnished so badly that it is unwearable - it’s no longer gold and looks dirty. I took it back to Macys and the sales people said that nothing could be done to fix it and it was too late to return it. The sales woman actually said to me “I tell people to never buy the gold plate because this happens so often.” I wish they had told my husband that before he wasted his money on this.
