2 months agoAn absolutely GOAT hybrid mirrorless camera
Most looking at the LUMIX S1RM2 have a focus on photography. And for the photographer this camera delivers in spades. However, what is frequently missed in photography centric purchases is the significant video features that this camera model brings to the table. With the latest version of the firmware, I've used it to record 8.1K 3:2 OpenGate for over three hours using the DCC18 USB-C dummy battery and an external SSD drive connected to the USB-C port. I've done this for 4 events now and it's a solid performer with amazing results in the color science.

Exceeds my expectations.
In many ways the S1RII exceeds my expectations. The CAF tracking works well IMO and I am a huge fan of Lumix colors! Battery life is okay and made easier by the compatibility with GH6,7 etc. batteries. Ergonomics are among the best in the business and I love Lumix colors.. My only gripe is that the new new features are basically not documented (other than their existence) which has been annoying but not really a big deal.. I'm just not really wanting to experiment at length.

Great Value for money
Planning to migrate from Nikon. 1. Woud like to see negative digitizing feature like D850 in the next firmware version. 2. High capacity battery 3. High buffer capacity 4. 3 dimensional level guage in view finder 5. On board memory + One CF-B card rather than two card slots 6. Inbuilt GPS 7. Don't waste time and money on lenses, let Sigma do it. You focus on camera development.

10 months agoBeautiful Camera, Lots of Features, Two Issues
I am a professional architecture and interiors photographer and was looking for something different. The Lumix S Series of cameras are what I was looking for. Something small, lightweight, and that can deliver quality color and depth rendering. I switched from Canon and so far have been overall pleased with the transition. I received this camera three days after release and have been becoming familiar with the new features since then. I am very happy with it so far. Focus is quick and accurate. Colors are amazing. Features on top of features. Menu setup is getting easier to understand and remembering where functions and setting are located. I have noticed, along with some other people, that it could use a firmware update already. The curtain doesn't always close when you power off the camera (and yes I have the settings right), and in just the last 24 hours the camera froze while reviewing images I had just taken. As most of us would try, I went to shut off the camera and it wouldn't turn off-twice (I had to eject the battery both times to get the camera to turn off (currently have a ticket open for that issue)). While it's not a huge issue right not, I can't have this become something bigger later on in my shooting season. Other than those two things I think I'll be very happy with this setup, I have it paired with the Lumix S5M2x-which is another beautiful camera in and of itself. And the two of them together are knocking it out of the park so far. The additional fact that I can get Leica and Sigma lenses and add Leica bodies to my bag is always an exciting benefit for me later on down the line. Would love to give it five stars, but we have to fix the little things. I can work with Lumix if they want, and help any way I can.

10 months agoAlready Needs a Firmware update.
Shutter does not close when shut off, if in silent mode. It should not matter When connected to USB-C, only charges the battery in the camera but not in the battery grip; S1R charged both. When writing to both cards at once, shows the message that both memory cards must be the same capacity, yet, still writes to both anyway. No option "Battery Use Priority", to determine which battery is used first, camera or battery grip. S1R and G9II both have this option.

Best IBIS for still shooting. Highly recommended.
I bought the S1RII April 2025. This camera was to replace an Leica SL2. I did this because the S1RII is over 1/4 pound lighter in weight. This is important to me since I broke my back and neck early 2024. Currently I am using this camera with the Lumix 18–40 zoom. The single most positive element of my use thus far is the IBIS. This feature is an order of magnitude better than I ever expected. The best over my Canon and Nikon cameras. As an example when I bought this camera I was still using a Leica 23mm TL lens (35mm equivalent). We took a jeep tour through Monument Valley AZ. This ride is very rough, bouncy and overall should be a nightmare for a camera if shooting while riding. And it was. However all of the many shots I took riding in the back of the jeep were sharp, well focused, and correct exposure. Amazing camera tech performance. The one negative I would say is the vast and deep menus. I had a Lumix S5II in 2023 and sold it from the frustration I had navigating the menus. This time I was determined NOT to let this camera get the best of me. I have found the info button very helpful when attempting to change a setting. I do only still shooting and it seems the majority of settings are video oriented but with this menu help I have been able to make most changes somewhat effectively. In summary I would recommend this digital camera to anyone wanting a superior L mount camera.
