Very thin chain

I bought this for my wife for Valentine's Day. She loved it but the chain is so thin that it broke just taking it out of the box. She tried using a slightly thicker chain but the clasp wouldn't fit through the hole that the chain goes through. Beautiful piece but unfortunately it was returned because, for her, with such a thin chain it is unwearable.
