Sony tv

We bought this Sony tv because we like the Sony brand but the reason we had to buy this tv is because our other Sony tv we had only 6 years and it broke down so here’s hoping we get many years out of this tv .

An Excellent upgrade for my X90J

Upgrade from 65X90J (an excellent TV) and from the get go dimming, colours, clarity, and HDR hit me in the face. I’m not a big fan of OLED (it’s really bright in my TV room), and this is the next best thing without breaking a bank for Bravia 9.

Video engine, excellent upscaling

My Bravia 7 65XR70 producse truly outstanding picture quality. It works well with my Apple TV 4K when I watch 4K HDR & Dolby Vision material. If the source is Dolby Vision capable, then the Apple TV will automatically switch the TV to its Dolby Vision preset. When source quality is poor (my free to air TV reception in 1080i), the Bravia upscales this poor signal into 4K fantastically - I've never watched free to air TV so clearly before. Upscaling weak content to 4K is one of Bravia's well know strengths. The minus is the Picture/display settings are very complicated (professional level of many options) and it is hard to get to a setting that is as I personally want - there is also no Calibration wizard as I've seen in my former LG TV. So after all the fiddling with the settings, I did a factory reset to get back to stock factory settings. Then I use just presets that come out of the box. So for my Apple TV it is set to Cinema, for free to air TV it is set to Standard, and for Google TV Home, it is set to Photos. These presets are excellent and are better than I can tweak manually. So unless you're a pro, you gotta accept their presets and they are really good. The audio is OK I can't say it's amazing but my Bravia 7 sends all audio to my Apple HomePods via eARC and my HomePods (a pair) sound much better than the Bravia's own speakers. Overall I'm really glad I put up the extra $$ to get this XR70 over the much cheaper HiSense because the legendary Bravia video engine is truly impressive if you're looking for faithful video reproduction. If you're looking for Pop, Bang & Fizz, go with the HiSense - it was designed for it.
