Quality headphones !
I am very pleased with my new headphones ! The sound quality is excellent. I also want say that these headphones do not have those horrible creaking noises you get with cheaper poor quality headphones when you move your head around, which is wonderful.

Great cans but high resolution through amp so so.
I have owned several headphones and very particular about high resolution capability of these cans. The Xm5 is considered a great headphone for noise cancelling but with wired connection to a pha-3 portable amp, driving it through balanced connection. It's performance did not go further. Just flat response though I could presume the burn in is still not enough. One of the best Sony headphones and yet affordable is actually the mdr-1A. If the acoustics could be brought to xm7 or xm8. That masterpiece would be complete. I am still waiting for new mdr-1am3 or mdr-2 and then I can make a better comparison

Not worth it
Headphones totally stopped working in a little over a year, Sony will not offer to repair or any support - they just told me to go find a headphone repair center. Google around, there are known problems with these and the software also sucks.

Decent performance but uncomfortable and fragile.
Noise cancelling is great, sound quality is decent once you've tweaked it with the EQ on the app. Headband is uncomfortable after about 30 mins and the hinges feel really delicate. Lots of users reporting quality issues with headband padding, too.
