Missing pieces on gift purchase

I ordered the Vtech cutie paws puppy carrier and was very pleased with the toy however I discovered it is missing 3 pieces. I was going to return it and exchange for a new one but it is no longer available. I purchased at a sale price and now if I return it I will have to purchase at a target or Walmart but cost $10 more. How can I get a new one? I’ve Also reached out to Vtech but unsure what they will say… A little disappointing since I always buy Vtech toys and that Macys didn’t notice the missing pieces and the toy was not strapped into the box… looks like it was either played with in the store or possibly a return…
