This book was amazing!
I finished this book a few days ago and oh my goodness was this book amazing! It was a page-turner and gets you hooked by the first few pages. All the characters have such unique personalities and the ending has good closure and relieves you. It starts with Hetty and then soon when the middle of the book comes you find out that the book switches POVs. I can't even decide on my favorite character as every character is so unique and cool. I love the body horror sense and the thriller parts of this as it makes the book so much more entertaining. I forgot that I was even reading and thought I was actually there for a moment! Trust me when I say reading this novel is soooooo worth it! People really don't like the ending but I loved it. I loved how it also brings up climate change, a very important topic to bring up in the modern day. Overall this book was a 100/10 and will always be one of my favorites!

Slow but really creative
It's slow but despite that it's a really good story with very creative ideas and I like that it's queer without making it all about being queer it's good lgbt representation

Very Interesting.
Honestly, I am not completely sure how I feel about this book. My first impression of it was a beautiful cover, and while the writing at times feels lyrical, this book is anything but beautiful. In an almost twisted retelling of The Lord of The Flies, Powers delivers a story of a group of girls doing anything to survive a deadly "Tox" while under quarantine at their boarding school. I absolutely loved the writing in this book and it would have felt magical had the contents not been so horrific, which is undoubtedly the point. I adored how complex and yet simple the characters were. While they were distinctly different from each other, they were also all young girls trying to survive. I will say I wish some things got more backstory. For example, we get hints of Byatt's life before the Tox but we never actually see it. I understand how this plays into Hetty's almost idealized version of Byatt, however, I would have loved to see this fleshed out a bit more. I think the ending of the book was abrupt, but I also feel like it would have been impossible to wrap up such horrific events in a matter of a few pages. The trauma that the girls have endured and the lies that they have been told will affect them for the rest of their lives. I just wish we could have learned more about the Tox and the after-effects of physically cutting it out of you. Overall, I found the story interesting and dark, but also real and raw. While you can see the inspiration pulled from other texts, this still feels original and new.

Needs a second book.
Didn’t quite live up to the hype that I gave it but I did like it overall. The ending was horrible though. Please make a second book.

Gritty body horror
By bethebluebook Wilder Girls is undoubtedly a wild ride : action, saphic romance, dystopia, body horror are many of the key aspects of this unique novel. Not for the faint of heart tough; there are multiple trigger warnings to consider before jumping in this book's universe. Here is a non-exhaustive list : family trauma, explicit langage about body decay, murders, suicide. The story revolves around Hetty's life at Raxter School for Girls, which has been put under quarantine for some time now. The setting is vivid, thanks to precise and economical descriptions, both of characters and spaces. As well as choosing the right informations to give to the reader, the author excels at painting disturbing and poignant scenes of body horror, which can be quite lenghty at times. I believe the lesbian representation is both graciously intergrated (the author managed not to fall into the usual stereotypes of the genre) to the book and thrilling. Indeed, the three main character are in a love triangle, a structure that is, most of the time, very cliché and redundant. Here though, it is not to important to the story and underline the challenges of unconventionnal relationships, especially at 17.

not that good
I think this book was over-hyped and the book was more popular because of its cover. Weird sub-plots and not great writing.
