A beautifully written novel!

The Book Thief was a remarkable book that left me with no regrets after reading. It is a story following a young girl in the Nazi Era who’s foster family decides to hide a Jew in their basement. While it is a long book at 500+ pages, every word is worth it. It transports you to a harsh world and Death being the narrator of this book set in the Holocaust is a quirky twist. Introduced to our intrepid main character, I was immediately intrigued. Zusak’s writing style has a way of making characters seem so elaborate. I loved reading about Liesel and her adopted parents relationship and more so her relationship with Rudy. Liesel is a book lover and she steals books as they are banned in the Nazi times. The Book Thief shows that even something as small as a book can be a lifeline to anybody. As an avid reader myself, I completely agree with that. The Book Thief is not a typical WWII book. The narrator of the book believes that Hitler took over a country and started a war with words instead of weapons. The narrator singles people out for responsibility and scolds them for believing propaganda blindly and not standing up. The narrator makes readers feel like they must take account of everything and stand up against wrong things which is a good life lesson. Because the narrator is Death himself, the narrator is the only one who can be blameless and completely innocent in the entire book, and narrates the story with bewilderment and pity looking down on the humans. Death also foreshadows a lot, so readers know who will die at what time. A heartbreaking book with poetic writing, lovable characters, and strong themes, the Book Thief will not disappoint! I would strongly recommend it!

I would recommend!

The Book Thief is an amazing read. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading about the Holocaust. This book can be very sad at times and often heartbreaking even though it is fiction may of the events that go on happened in real life. I loved the way that the author introduces the characters to the reader. This is definitely a book that you want to read!
