Highly recommend

This entire series was written so well!!! I loved each character, the world building, the romance. Actually when I finished the last in this series I went straigh ahead and bought the others in the spinoff! Highly recommended if you like fairy tale retelling with romance and fantasy.

I do not remember the last time I liked a sequel as much as I loved 'A Heart So Fierce and Broken'. Maybe because I didn't like Rhen that much anyway, or maybe because Grey is officially my favorite fictional boyfriend, but I was glad to see a brief departure from the original storyline and explore more of Kemmerer's world through the eyes of Grey and a new character, Lia Mara. Grey is missing, Harper's (fictional) army has yet to arrive, Rhen is loosing what little support he had, and rumors of another heir are taking root in Emberfall. As a way to protect Rhen and conceal who he really is, Grey remains away from the castle he once called both home for the good of Emberfall. 'A Heart So Fierce and broken' is a perfectly paced companion to A Curse So Dark and Lonely that takes readers out of Emberfall and to the northern lands of Rhen's enemy, Karis Luran. This installment introduces us to new characters, love interests, and reveals the magical heartbeat pulsing beneath a kingdom on the brink of war. I just started A Vow So Bold and Deadly but I feel confident saying that, as far as YA Fantasy goes, Kemmerer's Cursebreakers series is top notch. Onward to the end.
