4 starred reviews! Orange Is the New Black meets Walter Dean Myer's Monster in this gritty, twisty, and haunting debut by Tiffany D. Jackson about a girl convicted of murder seeking the truth while surviving life in a group home. Mary B. Addison killed a baby. Allegedly. She didn't say much in that first interview with detectives, and the media filled in the only blanks that mattered- a white baby had died while under the care of a churchgoing black woman and her nine-year-old daughter. The public convicted Mary and the jury made it official. But did she do it? There wasn't a point to setting the record straight before, but now she's got Ted - and their unborn child - to think about. When the state threatens to take her baby, Mary's fate now lies in the hands of the one person she distrusts the most: her Momma. No one knows the real Momma.

Has a fitting title!

I have enjoyed reading this book. It kept me engaged and wondering what it’s gonna happen by the end of the book. I will recommend this to anyone who likes murder mysteries, and some drama. See how Mary, the main character, goes through a lot of trauma, it is heartbreaking. Throughout the book, I kept wondering if Mary was going to keep her baby or not and how she’s going to fix her relationship with her mom. It had a great twist at the end of the book that surprised me. I am glad that I read this book and I would definitely read this book over and over again.

Amazing story that unfolded incredibly!

I'm not much of a reader, but I made it a goal in 2021 to start to read more and actually finish books I start. I bought this one, not too convinced I would like it or not. When I finally decided to crack it open, I was instantly hooked. I finish the book in less than two weeks and I shared it with friends. They all loved it too! We would talk about the book so enthusiastically that it caught a lot of peoples attention. I have never been so excited about a book. It is my new favorite!
