When the daughter of a diplomat finds herself fake dating a Scottish celebrity in Italy, she embarks on her own Roman Holiday until their emotions become genuine and the paparazzi pounce. Astoria "Story" Herriot, introverted and slightly anxious, knows Rome like the back of her hand, thanks to her attorney mother and their life in the city. But her tranquil existence is disrupted when she accidentally gets caught up in a fake dating scheme with Scottish heartthrob Luca Kinnaird, aimed at protecting his relationship with a pop princess. Enticed by Luca's promise to fund a scholarship in her late father's memory, Story agrees. Soon, she's showcasing the best cafes, exploring iconic sights like the Mouth of Truth, and enjoying picnics at the ruins of the Abbey of Santa Maria del Piano with Luca. While Story's travel guide skills are impeccable, her knowledge of celebrity life or her burgeoning feelings for Luca is nonexistent. As she pretends to be Luca's guide, and then his girlfriend, they attract the attention of the paparazzi, blurring the lines between what's real and what's fake as their worlds collide. Luca, sophisticated, wealthy, and possessing a charming accent, surprises Story at every turn, perhaps even shaking up her meticulously planned future. Their story unfolds like a fairy-tale romance in the Eternal City, but with unexpected twists and turns.

Bought it because of the reviews, but

It was boring. The cover got me and the 4 star reviews and should of read some of the bad reviews because the story started off adorable, but got boring and there seemed no point in the story, there was not really a romance.

LOVED it!

this is a swoon-worthy read, both in terms of the sparkling romance and the beautiful writing. I loved the main character, Astoria -- aka Story -- who feels like an outcast with the so-called Dip Squad, or snotty kids who are children of Diplomats in Rome. Then her life changes when she accidentally become swept up in a phony romance with Scottish hunk, Luca, to protect his real relationship with a pop princess from the paparazzi. This is such an inventive plot with enough twist and turns to keep you turning the pages. Story agrees to this fake romance because Luka sets up a schoIarship in her honor of her late husband. This book is a love letter to Rome, and the author makes you feel like you are visiting ll the great places to have a Roman holiday when you are having a fake romance with an irrestible hunk. What's not to like? I couldn't put this book down and neither could my young adult daughter. This is a page-turning charmer with sophisticated writing, elevating it above normal YA tropes. Can't wait to see what the author writes next!!!

It w as alright

Though the male lead is not a rock star, this is a rockstar romance and fake dating romance tropes. I really like the main characters' meet cute, and the way they started their story was actually quite cute. The story also parallels with the sights and history of Rome which I thought was a nice touch. The story was fine, but for me, the characters and the story were not very relatable. We get to experience the sudden introduction of fame and fortune that like the character, I don't know how to react. And to think the Cinderella trope is nothing new. I guess, the beginning started out really well, the middle was fine, and the ending was expected. It was all in the perspective of the main character and I guess I felt confused with her as the story goes.

Not For Me

Cute premise but execution wasn’t quite there. There were a few things that didn’t make sense to me: the need to fake date, the need to hide someone in rehab, the other kids not accepting her. Story herself is OK but the constant “she’s not like other girls” gets annoying. The chemistry wasn’t really there and this seemed longer than it needed to be. I loved the setting but the story just wasn’t for me.
