B&N Book Brandoned: Slim Book, Large Impact

Entitlement almost slipped under my radar. I adored Leave the World Behind but with so many books to review it almost didn't happen. Then I saw the cover (I do sometimes judge books that way, as they are part of the experience of book buying and reading), and boy am I glad I did. Like the best books of their time Rumaan Alam looks into the current landscape and provides us with a slim volume, but it speaks loudly about our world, being rich, being poor, the avenues we all navigate to be something and be someone, but at what cost? The novel's conversational tone puts the reader right into the halls and offices of those in control, only to see how out of control it all is. I cannot tell you anymore as you have to read this to the end and feel the overall impact of Alam's masterful style and premise. But look at that cover...let that be your way into this enraged story.

A true page-turner

Rumaan Alam, author of Leave the World Behind, has written another propulsive, unputdownable novel with Entitlement. The story of a young woman ushered into Manhattan's moneyed stratosphere as she mentored by a literal billionaire, the writing is sharp, sly, and incisive. Alam's observations about money and our relationship to it are spot-on. I could not put this one down.
