This is my second book by this author (previously had read Are You Sara) who is swiftly becoming one of my favorite thriller authors! I loved Shay and her spirit and found the entire plot interesting and engaging. There were so many characters, who also could have been possible suspects, but I never was left confused on who was who or how they were connected or important. The reveal and ending felt purposeful and not rushed. While there wasn't a huge twist, it still was filled with suspense and intricacies that kept me interested and engaged. I also liked how Shay's character got some eventual redemption. Definitely recommend for readers who enjoy complex suspense similar to books like First Lie Wins.

SC Lalli writes a thrilling mystery following Shay (the "plus one") as she tries to uncover what happened to the idolized couple on what was supposed to be the best week of their lives. I had theory after theory on who was behind the murders, but I couldn't completely predict this one! There were so many twists and unanswered questions to keep the reader engaged. The plot did drag at times (especially in the beginning), and I never formed a connection with any of the characters. The unsolved mystery kept the book's momentum and I found myself flying through the second half.

Lalli starts off making you wish to be there, but oh, it wouldn’t be good unless something happened! The marriage of Raj Joshi and Radhika Sangh promises to be the event of the season. The Joshi family builds and runs top hotels worldwide and the bride is a social influencer with her sister being the brains behind an international company. On the day the festivities are to begin, the bride and groom are found dead in their rooms. What could possibly have happened and who is responsible for the deaths? And why did all the guests have to sign a nondisclosure agreement? Shay Kapoor is THE PLUS ONE of the best man, Caleb Prescott III and sets out to try to find out what happened to the two celebrates. How did someone enter their rooms without a key card? There were very few given out to others in the wedding party. Caleb and the other best man, Sean suspect each other in the killings. But what was Raj doing travelling to Cabo monthly? And what of the drug cartels and are the deaths related to them? What’s going on with the suspicious fires at the Joshi work sites? And what is Caleb hiding? As Shay searches for answers, she enlists the help of events director, Daniela who helps her stay on the island to investigate. Putting the pieces together with so many jagged edges will not be an easy task. There were a lot of twists and turns in this novel. While I have dreamt of visiting a luxury adults only resort, I don’t think I’ll start with this one. The jagged edges take shape slowly but do eventually form a full picture as Shay was able to connect all the pieces. I could feel the tension ratchet up with each turn of the page. A Luxury Resort and Murder in Cabo
Shay Kapoor met Caleb on the night of his best friend Raj Joshi’s engagement party. As a graduate student she did not fit in with his friends, who were all from wealthy families. Raj’s fiancee Radhika made it clear that she did it belong, but as Caleb’s girlfriend she was invited to the wedding. The joining of two of India’s wealthiest families was a week long lavish affair at a luxury resort in Cabo. When Shay arrives she discovers evidence of Caleb’s infidelity. Before she decides whether to confront him, a scream breaks the silence. Daniela, the wedding coordinator, found the bodies of Raj and Radha, both shot through the head. While the wedding guests are all asked to leave, the immediate family members and Caleb are asked to stay as a part of the investigation. Caleb also asks Shay to stay and offer him her support. He is unaware that Shay is actually a reporter investigating the Joshi family. Raj had been making frequent trips to Mexico on family business. The police believe that a cartel may have been involved in the murder, but Shay has noticed the tension among the family members. Raj and Radhi’s guest villa was locked and there were a limited number of people who had access, including Caleb, Radhi’s sister Zara, Raj’s adopted brother Sean and Daniela. As Shay investigates the group her focus on a suspect changes as she discovers that each had a possible motive. With its’ luxurious setting and a list of suspects who are all hiding secrets, S.C. Lalli keeps you turning the pages as these secrets are revealed, leading to a deadly showdown. This is a fast paced story that is sure to please mystery lovers. Through twists and turns, motives are unveiled. The storyline gets a bit hung up in the investigative process before the end game unfolds.
