A Good Investment

I got this bag because I wanted something to last. My last backpack stopped looking cute after about eight years (through high school and college) and judging from the materials and construction I anticipate this bag to hold up longer. I use this daily for work and multi-day intercity travel by train. The pocket with the laptop pouch provides an adequate level of organization for pens, notebooks, and electronics. The fold over pocket is massive and fits more clothes than I anticipated. Do note the water bottle pockets are not large enough for a standard Nalgene. The location of the metal Briggs & Riley emblem on the foldover made me slightly nervous, because it could bend/break if the bag is folded in that location; although it seems that the length of the buckle strap thing constrains the fold location to avoid that.

Just an OK business/laptop backpack

This backpack has great materials and quality construction--just like all B&R products. But it really seems more useful as an overnight bag that happens to have space for a laptop. It does have very large pockets, but there's a lack of useful internal sub-pockets to help organize. You'll need to buy smaller organizer bags to avoid losing items or having them crushed in the bottom of the large pockets. Also, the foldover pocket--while huge--is incredibly hard to access. You have to unhook a latch, lift the foldover section up and unzip. The pockets on the outside for waterbottles are incredibly small--as they are on all B&R products. Last, there are no external loops to attach anything (e.g., hand sanitizer on a caribiner). I guess my summary is that this is first B&R product I'm considering donating to someone else. I just find so many annoyances about carrying it day-to-day.

A rare B&R miss

Looks good and good materials but it’s missing the most common design elements available in laptop backpacks 1/3 the price: No soft lined pockets or glasses pocket; no key lanyard; no stretch or mesh pockets; no wire/charger pockets - just 3 flat sleeves and lots of shallow, non-gusseted non-zippered internal pockets that would hold… flat business cards or something else tiny and flat - not a mouse or other peripheral. It doesn’t take much to be full - because, again, even the big pocket is flat and not gusseted. Once it’s full, it’s difficult to zip. The front pocket, however, is cavernous and more than enough for an overnight; which makes me think this is an overnight bag that happens to have a laptop sleeve as opposed to a good looking, well designed laptop bag.
