A Painful Purchase

Every other Brooks shoe I have purchased--and I have owned many--fit like a glove. Not the Revel 8, alas. The moment I laced up they hurt, and it was clear why--the much smaller, shorter, and narrower tongue meant that the laces cut into my unprotected ankle. I re-laced and wore thicker socks, but neither strategy helped. What worked was to go back to my old Revel 7s: no pain.

Over impressions; great shoe for the money.

Overall, so far, I like the shoes. The shoes are not too supportive/hard and not too soft. I think for the money they are one of the best buys in the Brooks line up. (3 to 5 miles per run). Training for a half marathon hoping they have enough cushion to make the long run comfortable.

Not a Fan

I've been a Revel fan since I got my first pair which was the Revel 3. It's been a good, light weight, neutral shoe. Unfortunately, the Revel 8 has been the worst iteration of this shoe. The new tread pattern is the worst as I'm an outside heel striker so where I strike there is no tread (after 2 runs the sole area is damaged due to the tread pattern). The top part of the shoe around where the ankle cut out is too far back so my ankle bone is actually hitting the top and rubbing. In addition, this might be the ugliest version of this shoe they've made. For me they keep getting further away from what this shoe was which is very disappointing.

Missed the mark for support and fit.

Unfortunately I had to return these. I was excited to see the new color scheme for the Revel 8 series. I have really enjoyed some of the previous shoes in the Revel series (specifically the 3 & 5), but the 8 felt totally different. The fit was too wide and too long and there was no arch support. I was very happy with the prompt acceptance of my return. I ordered another pair of the Trace 3 instead.

I bought these to replace my old Ghosts and am super happy with the Revel 8! I use them daily to walk my dog, hit a cycling class at the gym, or run errands around town. I receive complements on the color and style of these; also note they are super easy to clean.
