Lots of Potential
Full disclosure I had no idea who Ryan and Shane were before purchasing this book nor have I ever seen an episode of their show so my review of this book (audiobook) is solely based on the book alone. While scrolling through trying to decide on a new audiobook to listen to I was psyched to find "Unsolved Supernatural", the perfect Spooky Season listen I thought. Though the chapters are organized well and there are a lot of cases covered I learned next to nothing. The narrator briefly introduces each case and gives a surface overview but is interrupted by Ryan and Shane every other sentence. These interruptions would be welcome if they were filled with commentary that added to the story but instead are mostly filled with jokes and humor that isn't actually all that funny. They comment that they have visited some of these sights on their shows but fail to bring any of their experiences into this book. I'm assuming if you want real content or want to learn anything more about these cases then it's the show you want to watch instead of reading/listening to the companion book. Disappointing experience with a book that had a lot of potential to be really entertaining.

Fun and Fascinating!
BuzzFeed Unsolved Supernatural 101 True Tales of Hauntings, Demons, and the Paranormal is a fun delve into some of the creepiest locations around, through the lens of web series hosts Ryan Bergara and Shane Madej. Focusing heavily on locations in the US, Bergara and Madej share some of the most intriguing and frightening paranormal haunts across the country from former insane asylums, to hotels, graveyards, towns and more. The set up of the book is quirky and reads much like a podcast, with our hosts interjecting random thoughts throughout the narrative. For people wanting real meat and potatoes information just be warned the book is an extremely high overview of the incidents and they don’t dive too deeply into details. With that being said, it makes it an entertaining and quick nonfiction read that is easy to bounce in and out of or one you can skim through and focus more on the incidents you find most intriguing. This is a must for “true” story paranormal fans and would make an excellent gift for those in your life who love everything haunted.

Great Ghost Stories but Challenging Format
Unsolved Supernatural is a conflicted read for me. Once I could get past all the incessant chatter, it was easier to read. For such a short book...it was hard to want to even finish. Let me explain why... First, let me say, I have no idea who these guys are or what show they host/create. I wanted this one simply for the ghost stories. This is almost like a tour guide for all things haunted and I loved this. The way it's broken down into sections (haunted houses, asylums, hotels, etc.) is perfect. The pictures and illustratios are great too. These are the only things I loved about this book. With each summarized ghost story, you get commentary from Ryan and Shane interrupting said story. You get a sentence or two to start the story off, and then their two cents (which was sometimes funny), and then back to the story. This goes on for the entirety of the book and feels like reading a podcast. For me, this was extremely disruptive and stinted the flow. It would have been better to have their chatter moved to the end of each story instead of the format this was written in. I am positive others will love this style of writing, especially fans of Ryan and Shane. It just does not work for me and actually led me to almost DNF this one. I managed to push through, just completely skipping over their dialogue, and really enjoyed all the different haunted places they discuss. Some I was familiar with, and some were new to me and they ALL definitely brought the icy chills and creep factors. While this wasn't a hit for me, I would recommend for fans of these guys or readers who enjoy books that read podcast style. The stories themselves would make this one Spooktober worthy too. I appreciate Running Press and Novel Suspects for the review copy. All opinions are my own.
