stiff material, very low stretch

I had high hopes for this pair of knit pants - I like the print and that it's 100% cotton and it seems nice and thick for the winter. Upon receiving, it feels very rough and stiff. I washed it cold and air dried it but it still came out stiff with very little stretch. I bought a 12m size for my 9-mo-old daughter hoping it'd give extra room but it was so hard to put on that I gave up trying. I wouldn't recommend this product unfortunately.
