great for light travel especially in Europe!
The earlier version was a bit sturdier and more functional but was also a bit heavier. This is a great suitcase for meeting the low cost luggage restrictions in Europe. I hate having to check my bag. I Have used this suitcase for trips as long as 2 months. You just gotta pack well and light. It is great that it can be wheeled or carried like a back pack - have you ever tried to wheel luggage on cobblestone streets. Impossible! This solves all of that and the removable daypack is a fantastic option.

Nice Lightweight Flexible
Planning on using it for a 10 day vacation through Italy in the summer. Like the flexibility of using both parts to pack belongings, but separate them to fit the suitcase part in airline overhead bin. I keep the small backpack with me for items needing access to, and use it as a day-pack while touring Italy.

I have bought this product over and over
I love the multi functional use of this bag, particularly because of the removable zip on day backpack and the fact that the main bag also has hidden backpack straps. When traveling internationally you cant beat the combination of these functions. With steps and cobblestone streets its a breeze. And its a perfect carryon size for flight with removing daypack as your personal carry on. Only con is this bag tends to show its wear and tear around the edges more quickly then i would expect from this company. That con will not keep me from wearing out a few more as I take 10 trips a year and need this bag!!

Great bag. Had borrowed for my Europe trip. Now have my own.
The backpack straps are essential for navigating narrow spiral stairs and cobblestones. Saw so many people rolling bags all over Venice, up & down all those bridges, and through the city streets in Paris & Rome, eek!The removable backpack is great for daytrips & picnics. Roll it in the airport. You need this if you are going to Europe.

I bought a similar backpack over 20years ago
My last high Sierra backpack lasted over 20 years and it still usable with some duct tape. I finally found a similar one with same features. Not as many pockets on this one which is too bad but still very good.

Very poorly made
I sent this piece of luggage back to High Sierra because it was so poorly made that after one trip I can't use it again. The zipper that attaches the small pack to the larger one has never worked properly and is now coming away from the bag. It took me about a half hour to finally attached two bags last time I tried. Fabric and the metal components used on this luggage are cheap and have failed. I was on a long trip I had no choice but to keep using this bag so yes it has wear and tear. The bottom line is that it is a piece of junk and I will not be purchasing anything from Samsonite or High Sierra ever again and I'm going to leave a truthful review about the bag and my experience with it. I have no use for the bag because it is not worthy of another trip. When I bought it I was thinking I would be using it again but with all the problems that it has and the zipper coming apart it is useless to me making it a disposable bag. That was not what I intended to buy and I wouldn't have paid that kind of money for something so poorly made. After sending it back, I recieved a reply saying that the bag was unrepairable and that the problems were wear and tear and it would be destroyed in 30 days unless I wanted it sent back to me at my expense. Not happy!
