Rug looked worn in 3 months!

Rug looked great on receipt-3 months later the rug looks dark tan, stained even though it is vacuumed at least twice weekly. It is in a bedroom so it doesn't have traffic directly from the outside. My previous rug in the same area looked better after 7 years( I only replaced as I had painted the room a different color, plus I didn't like the pattern anymore). I am going to try having it professionally cleaned and stain guarded-- hopefully this will help.
