NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER The third book in an epic series about a girl who will travel beyond the stars to save the world she loves from destruction from the author of the Reckoners series, the Mistborn trilogy and the Stormlight Archive. Spensa's life as a Defiant Defense Force pilot has been far from ordinary. She proved herself one of the best starfighters in the human enclave of Detritus and she saved her people from extermination at the hands of the Krell the enigmatic alien species that has been holding them captive for decades. What's more, she traveled light-years from home as an undercover spy to infiltrate the Superiority, where she learned of the galaxy beyond her small, desolate planet home. Now, the Superiority the governing galactic alliance bent on dominating all human life has started a galaxy-wide war. And Spensa's seen the weapons they plan to use to end it: the Delvers. Ancient, mysterious alien forces that can wipe out entire planetary systems in an instant. Spensa knows that no matter how many pilots the DDF has, there is no defeating this predator. Except that Spensa is Cytonic. She faced down a Delver and saw something eerily familiar about it. And maybe, if she's able to figure out what she is, she could be more than just another pilot in this unfolding war. She could save the galaxy.

Can't wait for more

Brandon Sanderson is a talented, multifaceted writer and with Cytonic, book three of the Skyward series, he does not disappoint. Intriguing characters with a wonderful heroine - if you have not yet had a chance to fall in love with Spensa, you will through this story. While Cytonic is a third in a series, it can also be read as a stand alone - but be warned - you will want to go back and read the other two afterwards, so you may as well begin at the beginning. The universe created in this series is marvelous - the complexity of characters in the universe is wonderful, and the world building and descriptions will make you wish you could go there. You won't be able to let it go.

Great addition to the skyward world

Leaving behind her feud with the intergalactic warlords, Spensa enters a portal where memories and time slip away. As teeming hordes of malevolent entities try to hunt her down, Spena heads deeper and deeper into the Nowhere. Along the way, she encounters pirates, M-Bot, dinosaurs, and many more. Each has their own agenda. Will she accomplish what she came to do? Will she get out before she completely forgets who she is? This Space opera novella is true to Sanderson's other books in this series. The characters are true to the originals and readers will enjoy seeing Spensa's point of view more in depth. The plot is well-developed, action-packed, and engages the reader. Readers who like Brandon Sanderson, science fiction, and adventure will enjoy reading this book.

Loved Book 3

I enjoyed continuing this series, but this was definitely my least favorite of the 3 books(so far). I gave Skyward and Starsight 5 stars , but this one a little less. There were some parts where the setting of Nowhere felt like the plot was slower and a little boring. I still love Spensa's adventure story and plan to continue reading. Can't wait!

Fun but felt rushed

Another one of my most anticipated releases! Very happy to have had the chance to review this e-arc! This picks up right where Starsight left off and does quite start with a bang. I dove into this without any predictions or expectations whatsoever and it ended up being...alright. This review will contain mild to no spoilers for the previous book. Let’s start first with what I liked about this installment: Cytonics - well, as the title suggests, we will get to know more about them here. This was a very interesting part of the book and also a factor to what made it fun. New setting - if you’ve read Starsight then you know where Spensa is. Around 98% of this book is set there and nowhere else. Cytonic is quite like an exploration of it; if you want to see and know more of the cytoverse then this book is not short on that. New characters - we meet another ragtag bunch! And they are very much unexpectedly endearing! Their dynamics are not so different to that of Skyward Flight. Action - similar to the previous books. Fast, fun, and yes do expect more Spensa antics. Twists - awesome! I did not see that coming. I didn’t even have a hunch! That may be a me thing though! I still found it pretty cool nevertheless. Conclusion - it was fitting and satisfying and I am the more excited for book 4! What I did not like: Dialogue - some made me cringe? Although I had my issues with the dialogue since book 1. It has toned down gradually though but still noticeable. Plot - my biggest setback was probably this one. Compared to the others, this didn’t thrill me as much? It was...okay, just weaker which brings me to my next points. Stakes - this was addressed in text actually but I still could not deny the fact that I was underwhelmed. Since I found the plot weak, and felt like there wasn’t much to follow, the stakes didn’t feel high in this book. I guess this could also explain why I didn’t experience the same buzz I did in the previous installments. Also, I thought things escalated too quickly. There wasn’t enough build up to feel excitement to certain plot points. Characters - I did mention the new characters were great, but a lot of them weren’t really fleshed out here in my opinion; some side characters could use more depth. Doesn’t mean they weren’t fun additions. Overall, Cytonic wasn’t bad! Maybe I just really expected more, considering how Starsight ended. This was still a very fun, engaging, and surprisingly fast read with characters that were a joy to read about and spend time with. Review to be posted on my blog closer to publication date!

Fantastic Read

What can I say, Brandon Sanderson is amazing and I love all his books and got my husband addicted to him too so I was thrilled to read this next installment in the Skyward series. Cytonic is another hit and favorite for me. This continues where the last book left off and flows smoothly with the story. We pick up right where it left off with Spensa, M-Bot, and Doomslug, and the Delvers. This book is a bit different with the genre, which was more noticeable to me at the very start, with it being a bit more Sci-Fi than Fantasy and then blending the two more as the story continues with Spensa. There are some twists, reveals/answers that help explain things and that caught me off guard - I mean how did he do that with some of these amazing twists in here. I love the continued development of the characters and their interactions as they continue on their journey with Spensa figuring out more about her talents and such. I love M-Bot, he cracks me up and Doomslug is awesome. I had a bit more emotional ride with this story than I have had with the other ones in this series. As a note here, two novellas were just published that are between the previous book, Starsight, and this one and they have good information and aspects to the story from other characters, etc, but it isn't necessarily required to read the novellas before this. I didn't read the novellas and I didn't feel lost or like I was missing anything obvious to the story. I highly recommend this read along with the previous books in this series by Brandon Sanderson if you haven't read them, go read them now! Thanks so much to Random House Children's Publishing/Delacorte Press and NetGalley for letting me read and review this fantastic book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Such a great ya sci-fi

The only thing I really need to say is m-bot right?! But really this is another super solid installment in the Skyward series. Every book is such a wonderful complete story on its own but also makes you want more in the series. The OG characters are amazing as always and Sanderson really brings new great characters in with each book! Definitely brush up on the ending of Starsight if it’s been a bit though because you are really dropped right back into the action. I really love this series! Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

Loved

I took a minute (two days) to think about this book before I started to write my review. Cytonic by Brandon Sanderson so much different than I expected it to be. But after taking a beat to think about it I realized this book is absolutely necessary in Spensa’s journey. The best comparison I can make is how Luke has to leave his friends/ the main plot to study under Yoda before he can finally become a Jedi. (Everybody should get that reference)You think it’s going to be boring being away from the main action but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The action continues when we enter “the nowhere”. Spensa, M-Bot, and even Doomslug get the chance to grow and mature in a really unexpected way. I can’t wait for the novellas to come out and even worse who knows when book 4 is going to come out! On a personal note, I’ve been really focusing on YA books recently because I’m a teacher and we have decided to make a schoolwide initiative to encourage our kids to read more. With the pandemic and lockdowns, a lot of our students are behind where they should be and reading is the best way to get them back on track. So I want to have a lot of books to recommend my young adult students. This series is it is definitely something I would recommend all YA readers especially kids who like video games and don’t normally give books a chance. To all the Brandon Sanderson stans out there, this is a no-brainer and he hits it out of the park once again. Thank you net galley for the ARC #netgalley #cytonic
