The Bayou Holds Secrets

On my first try reading the book, I put it down, I just couldn't get into it. I felt that it dragged. Yes, yes, get on with the story. So for a long time it just sat on my shelf. On a recent road trip, I took the book, Dark and Shallow Lies, figuring what the hell, I'll give it the old collage try. Once I got past page 75, things were looking up. I had to keep reading. The mystery was finally keeping my interest. Did she, Elora, leave in the night as planned or did something sinister take place? As her best friend, Grey, tries to discover what really happened to Elora. As Grey digs for the truth, she uncovers that the 'whole' town has secrets of various degrees! The story's climatic ending take place during a hurricane, which made it edge of the seat reading. The story weaves around the teenagers and their fears and hopes for the future. All of the characters moved the story along. No 'what's this character doing in the story'. I absolutely loved the description of the town. I do like a good 'swamp' mystery. I could feel the heat, the mugginess, the bugs & critters and the isolation of the island town, La Cachette. (The alligator named Willie Nelson by the teens was a nice small break in the story).

A Magical Mystery to Fall in Love With

Dark and Shallow Lies is a wonderfully written dark and eeire tale that had me hooked from the start. The story is full of engaging characters who were well developed and drove the plot forward. The setting of La Cachette, Louisiana came to life on the page and was such a great choice for this dark, mysterious story. Ginny Myers Sain created this world with such vivid details that I felt transported into the story myself, as if walking among the other characters. I could feel the hard work and love that went into the writing of the novel and appreciated it even more for that. It's rare for me to find books now that keep me guessing at what will happen. This did it for me. I thought I had the ending figured out more than once, only to have my expectations flipped upside down in the best kind of way. If you're looking for a page-turner book full of secrets, lies, and a little bit of supernatural, then this is the story for you. A lot of Hype for an Average book

It was average at best. In a town full of psychics, no one seemed to know what happened to our Main character's best friend who disappears during a game of hide or seek, in the middle of the night mind you. Many of the other children in this book were introduced only to appear for a few sentences to "further the plot" (kinda) and then disappear. MC's idea of investigating was to ask the same question over and over again with the same results with a touch or two of clarity. Now I will say the author does paint a beautiful picture of southern gothic vibes, great imagery of the surroundings and swamps, and the overall feel of summer. This book really did have some great potential toward being a more exciting thriller/mystery however it fell flat by just focusing on Grey. By not exploring the other characters' psychic abilities more or even involving them more this felt more like a lopsided shallow one-sided love triangle with just a sprinkle of mystery. At least there was minor character growth. What are you doing stepbro. If you know, you know.

I love the book

I would rate this book five stars and two thumbs up .I have it in my books I am reading now pile and I couldn't put it down. I would suggest it to people who love a good book. The book left me on the edge of my seat and I couldn't stop reading it. I loved the storyline and the many characters and different places and locations in the book. I loved the Cover of the book and might read the book again. It's a great book to read during Halloween time and a bingeworthy book. One of those you don't want to miss reading book of the year books. You will laugh and want to read this book slowly and not miss anything. When I first started reading this book I was like wow I don't want to put it down. I have many favorite characters in the book. A lot of people probably know some one who is like one of the characters or a mix of each character. This would make a great gift for book lovers

Keep Coming Back For More

I remember seeing the reviews on this book. It was sold out everywhere and I knew I had to get my hands on a copy. I couldn't put the book down. Every chapter began and left off with so many clues. I felt for the main character. The heartache. There's a lot of plot twists, which makes everything even more interesting. You think you know who did it, until something else shows up, and you're thrown back into questioning everyone again.
