Dinosaurs Before Dark Graphic Novel (Magic Tree House Graphic Novel Series #1) by Mary Pope Osborne
Product details
Web ID: 14352452A fantastic adaptation!
Join Jack and Annie as they discover a mysterious (and magical!) tree house in the woods not far from their house. The tree house is filled from top to bottom with books and when Jack and Annie make a wish, they find themselves thrust back into the time of the dinosaurs! My daughter and I started reading this chapter book series last year and really enjoyed all the time travel adventures that Jack and Annie find themselves on. They are quick and easy reads that are perfect for beginner readers and are filled with facts about the time period that they end up traveling to so they are both fun and educational. This new graphic novel adaptation was even more fun to read, especially because my daughter picked this one up and read it out loud to me instead of the usual vice versa. The 'he said's and 'she said's were left out and there's a lot of onomatopoeia that makes this beginner-reader friendly. This series is perfect for fans of history and magic and this first adaptation is perfect for dinosaur lovers!

a new edition in a favorite children's series
The Magic Tree House series has been loved by many beginning readers who have eagerly followed the adventures of Jack and Annie. Ever since the tree house first appeared and whisked the two back to prehistoric times, Jack and Annie have been learning and doing. Now, in a new twist on an old theme, the books have gone graphic. First, to come, is Dinosaurs Before Dark, a title certain to be enjoyed in its new format. So, have a child you know, sit back, spend time with Jack and Annie, explore the wonderful illustrations and…become an enthusiastic reader. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.

A Great Book to Graphic Novel
*Disclaimer, I have received a free e-copy of this title, this shill not affect my thoughts or opinions towards it* This was such a cute great illustration version of the first ever magic tree house book. I thought it was very cute and reminded me when I first read the original book as a kid. The illustrations do add a very nice touch the story overall with all the beautiful colors. Overall 3/5 stars.

A Fun, Approachable Adaptation
Thank you to NetGalley, Random House Children's, and Mary Pope Osborne for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review. This graphic novel is absolutely adorable and perfect for younger readers. I started reading Magic Tree House when I was in Kindergarten and have the collection up to Twister on Tuesday (#23) which is about where I dropped off as I got older and began to read more advanced books. This graphic novel certainly brought some nostalgia as I was taken back to the very first adventure Annie and Jack ever have in the Magic Tree House: an adventure back in the time of the dinosaurs. It was always one of my favorites, as I love dinosaurs, and it has it's educational bits for young readers while also being a great read for those who are developing their vocabulary and reading skills., Of course, the graphic aspect is a nice touch as well and really adds to the adventures in the world. Overall, super cute and fun. I loved this graphic novel and see that an adaptation of the second novel is already on the way. Awesome!

A New Take on an Old Favorite
Based on the classic Magic Tree House series Dinosaurs Before Dark is the first graphic novel installment. Many readers are familiar with the children’s favorite series where siblings, Jack & Annie, find a treehouse that transports them back in time. In this version Jack & Annie are taken to the age of the dinosaur after discovering the treehouse. Fans will be familiar with the story. The graphics are good but the storyline is sparse. I feel beginning readers will enjoy the book but may find the novel more adventurous. I think the original series is a superior text.

Great new version
I received an ARC of Dinosaurs Before Dark, which is the first Magic Tree House book in graphic novel format, thanks to the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I grew up reading Magic Tree House books. I started with book 17, Tonight on the Titanic (yes, I know that is very far from book one), and was hooked. If you are unaware of what this series is, first, I apologize for your child self, and, second, they are still worth reading! Each book contains an adventure where Jack and Annie travel in time and place in a magic tree house, which is filled with books of where they can (and most likely will) go. Their first adventure takes them 65 million years into the past where they get to experience dinosaur's first hand. Jack is the cautious and studious older brother while Annie is the hyperactive and impulsive younger sister. Together they learn about the world and history, saving people and animals as they go. From adventure one, they are addicted and are excited to go on the next one with knights! The graphic novel did a wonderful job at translating the book into a graphic novel format. I love the artwork and it read like a movie. While the original books are about 100 pages with pictures throughout, this is a much faster read with beautiful colored images. My daughter loved Magic Tree House but as she got older the less she wanted to read chapter books and the more she got into graphic novels (she's 8). This will definitely get her back to exploring history in a fun way!

Magic Tree House Goes Graphic
This book kicks off a new phase in the Magic Tree House series. Readers who are already fans will have the chance to experience the stories in a new way with the action brought to life through full-color illustrations. But for youngsters who have never given Jack and Annie a try, this may draw them in - especially if they happen to be fans of graphic novels. The detailed images clearly show the setting and action, allowing text to be limited to speech bubbles and lightening the reading load for those who are intimidated by chapter books. Whether it is the story or the format that attracts them, readers will have fun sharing the adventure. Since this is the first of the series, it covers the discovery of the tree house and how the kids find out that it is magical. The incredible size of the tree and the height of the tree house from the ground emphasize that it is unusual. The stacks of books inside reveal an astonishing range of topics; bats, robots, mythology, dinosaurs...which hint at possiblities for future exploration. It is also easy to differentiate the personalities of the siblings from their body language and expressions. And while readers are caught up in the story they will also learn a few facts about dinosaurs. School libraries, classroom collections, and public library children's departments will want several copies because it is sure to be in demand.
