Quality/longevity

Very lovely necklace. Great price. But I am questioning how long it will stay without tarnishing. I bought this same necklace and gave it to a friend about about a year ago and she said it was starting to tarnish. I don't think she had it cleaned or tried to clean it herself, so I have no experience with how long it should hold up.
