Asymmetrical pleats...Why??

I bought these today without trying them on. I thought the pants had defects. The material over the zipper that folds beyond the zippewr line. One side has pleats in the front. The oher side has the pleats at the middle of the hips. I thought it was a mistake, but looking at the picture here, I can see it was intentional. It is a ridiculous fit. You look like you are wearing somebodies mistake. The color is nice.
