Harry Potter has never been the star of a Quidditch team, scoring points while riding a broom far above the ground. He knows no spells, has never helped to hatch a dragon, and has never worn a cloak of invisibility. All he knows is a miserable life with the Dursleys, his horrible aunt and uncle, and their abominable son, Dudley - a great big swollen spoiled bully. Harry's room is a tiny closet at the foot of the stairs, and he hasn't had a birthday party in eleven years. But all that is about to change when a mysterious letter arrives by owl messenger- a letter with an invitation to an incredible place that Harry - and anyone who reads about him - will find unforgettable.

Entering the wizarding world!!

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone is a magical and heartwarming introduction to J.K. Rowling’s wizarding world. It follows 11-year-old Harry as he discovers he's a wizard and begins his first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Full of wonder and a sense of mystery, the story balances humor and danger. It’s an enchanting start to a legendary series that appeals to both children and adults alike.

The Beginning of the Boy Who Lived

Growing up I never read any of the Harry Potter books (although I read the first two a couple of years ago but don’t remember anything from them) but I watched all of the movies so I knew the main things that were going to happen. I was surprised by how different the character relationships are in the book versus the movie and how Neville gets pushed out in the movies when he plays a semi big role in the books. I think the detail of the characters and the character relationships are my favorite part about the book versus the movie. Enough about the book versus the movie, let’s focus on the book. I love how Harry and Ron come from similar financial backgrounds, of always getting hand-me downs and never anything new just for them. I thought that brought them closer and really started their friendship. I’m glad Hermione was able to became more friendly and still keep her focus on studying and knowing just about everything. Malfoy clearly comes from a family who cares all about image and thinks they are better than everyone and can get away with everything. It was interesting to see how Ron has spent his life in the shadows of his older brothers and to know what everyone expects of him, to see Hermione know everything even though she is from a muggle family and to see that people expect things from Harry but they aren’t sure what yet. I also feel like Harry has a lot of pressure on him because of how his parents died and him being the youngest seeker, and of course being the boy who lived. I really enjoyed the book and thought the movie left out a lot of cool or semi important details - but what book to movie adaptation is perfect. I liked following Harry’s path from living with the Dursley’s, to meeting Hagrid, exploring Diagon Alley, learning about you-know-who, going to Hogwarts and all of his adventures while at school. I’m glad we got to learn more about Harry’s parents, other then they are dead, and introduced to the relationship between his dad and Snape. I love how caring Hagrid is about Harry and his incredibly thoughtful gift he gave him.
