In this dark dystopian tale, 17-year-old Hawk is growing up hard and fast in post-apocalyptic New York City until a perilous destiny forces her to take flight and protect her home. Where is Maximum Ride? Ten years ago a girl with wings fought to save the world. But then she disappeared. Now she's just a fading legend, remembered only in stories. Hawk doesn't know her real name. She doesn't know who her family was, or where they went. The only thing she remembers is that she was told to wait on a specific street corner, at a specific time, until her parents came back for her. She stays under the radar to survive... until a destiny that's perilously close to Maximum Ride's forces her to take flight. Someone is coming for her. But it's not a rescue mission. It's an execution.

Huge Fan of Maximum Ride and Hawk

If you read the Maximum Ride Series I highly recommend you continue with this new series that is tied into the Maximum Ride Series. You not only get consumed by the need for more, but you also live the journey with them in your brain like you are watching it happen. Loved this book and the series! Highly recommend!

An Epic Ride!!!!

Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. I couldn’t put HAWK down. James Patterson and Gabrielle Charbonnet wrote an incredibly captivating first book in the MAXIMUM RIDE: HAWK series, and I am here for every single second of it! I honestly would have finished this book in a day had I not been sick, needed naps, and my medicine just zonked me out. But I woke up the next day needing to know what happened! And let me tell you - it was better than I could have imagined… If you were ever a fan of the original MAXIMUM RIDE books, you would love this series, but it’s not necessary to have read them. HAWK is a book you can easily pick up and enjoy because you love fantasy, dystopian worlds, and bad@$$ fighting girls you can look up to - think Katniss Everdeen, but if she had wings. Both Hawk and Katniss are fierce, fearless, and fight for what is right. Plus, they never give up. This book is filled with so much action that I found myself holding my breath at times - not the best idea when you have severe asthma cold - that I kept flipping the pages needing to know what happens! Not to mention, it also has its fair share of heart, angst, and a little romance, too. And, oh my stars, that ending! It’s not a cliffhanger, but it was wow, so wow… I can’t wait to see what happens next in the CITY OF DEAD! Highly, highly recommend it to my fantasy/dystopian/adventure lovers! Hawk by James Patterson

This book I bought as a Christmas gift for my youngest granddaughter. She has read the other Maximum Ride series and I thought she’d like it. I have it on my IPad also and I enjoyed the story very much. Patterson is one of my good to authors. I’m seldom disappointed in his work.

Impossible to Put Down

How incredibly lucky am I that The Book Terminal chose me to participate in a blog tour for this book? Not only did I get an advanced copy, but I devoured the book in one sitting. I hadn’t read the Maximum Ride books, but I never felt left out of the story. Now I have an incentive to go back and read them as I await book two. Reading reviews before writing my own, it’s clear I missed out on reading the originals. Hawk is a flawed teenager who lives by a code. She is a survivor who takes care of “her kids.” Each kid has special abilities, abilities that came at a terrible cost to themselves. They’re lucky to be alive. If it weren’t for the kids, Hawk would be alone in the world. Her parents left her a decade ago, breaking their promise to return for her. As she makes her way amongst her friends and in this harsh dystopian world, Hawk learns more about herself than she ever dreamed possible. Patterson has created a wonderfully rich and scary world with a fantastic main character who drew me in from the very start. I admire Hawk’s strength and resilience and dig her brand of sass. I cannot wait for book two because I need more of Hawk and Pietro. Hawk is a young adult dystopian/fantasy/thriller mashup that ticks so many boxes that it’s impossible to put down. Hawk is such a super fun read, and I cannot recommend it enough.
