Very versatile

Over 30 years ago, I bought a similar version High Sierra carry-on in a set. I still own the whole set and the carryon just started to fray in one corner. This is the closest version to it I can find, as a replacement.

This bag has so much versatility unmatched by any other bag.

Use as a carryon for long trips. The key feature is the detachable backpack. First, when going thru TSA, we keep the backpack attached. We put all of our pocket items-wallets,money, watch, keys, change, sanitizers, belt, etc.-into a ziplock which put into bag. After TSA, we retrieve all of our pocket items. Second, prior to boarding, we separate the bag from the backpack. After boarding, the backpack becomes our briefcase, purse or whatever and is stored under seat. The bag w/o backpack goes into overhead. Deplaning the backpack goes on our backs and the bag is a rolling bag. This may sound complicated but has worked like a charm many times for us.

My second purchase of same design.

Second one I have owned. I have done several 2+ months trips using this in Asia. Easy to back pack when needed to to pull along. My first one had corrosive spilled on it and gummed the zippers making it hard to unzip the back . My wife still has the original we bought some 8 years ago ( I think). Looking forward to many long trips with this one.

Go back to older version

Original backpack portion zipper broke after years of use everyday. Luggage was great otherwise. Purchased new luggage just for backpack. Backpack horrible. No give like previous. One less pocket. Material way too rigid.

This is my second one.

We use this as the carry on in plane. You can separate the larger portion to put it in the overhead compartment and use the top part for stuff you need during the flight and put in under the front seat.
