Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute by Talia Hibbert

So I found this one to be a little too YA for my taste - the characters make some interesting choices, but this is quite literally a YA so it is probably written for the perfect audience. (They do mention sex and curse a few times but nothing crazy so it probably fits the high school age perfectly) Outside of the YA, this one was super cute and had me laughing out loud. Highly recommend for the adult readers who need a break from steam or people who just love a good rom com.

Loved it!
I bought this book a little over a week ago and was just casually reading it for a while, but then it got so good I wasn't able to put it down. The way Hibbert writes just really puts you into the world your reading about. It's definitely a fun read and I enjoyed the glossary at the beginning to help with the British slang.

Was VERY cringy
I love the idea of the book dont get me wrong, but the execution was horrible. Each character had 1 thing about them and basically thats it. Their dialect was also cringeworth

it was cute but it wasn’t what I was expecting
yes it was cute story, but I feel like the book could have been way better. I feel like it took forever for me to actually enjoy it even though I didn’t enjoy it much.

YA Romance with Nuance and Depth!
Hibbert’s foray into young adult romance is an absolute delight. Celine and Brad are wonderful characters, both independently and as a duo. I loved Celine’s obsession with conspiracy theories and the way that Hibbert portrayed her tendency to seek revenge and avoid her feelings. I also appreciated Brad’s love of writing fun sci-fi stories and the thoughtful OCD representation in his character. Together, Celine and Brad have so much chemistry. Their interactions throughout the novel are witty, cute, heart-wrenching, and hilarious. I love to see this type of nuance and depth in YA romance, specifically when the characters go from hating each other to catching feelings. I adored seeing how Celine and Brad grow from best friends to arch nemeses to best friends to more than friends. There were a lot of ups and downs during Celine and Brad’s relationship which led to an entertaining read, but there were also so many tender moments that were absolutely perfect in a romance novel.

Fun Love Story!
Ah Brad and Celine... I love them. Talia Hibbert has written the sweetest romance with Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute. I began rooting for Brad and Celine at the very beginning and this book just made my heart happy. Their relationship is one of the most genuine I've read in a book in a very long time. Not only that but I enjoyed both Brad's and Celine's flaws. They felt realistic and I connected with them a lot - especially Brad's obsessive-compulsive disorder. Hibbert wrote realistic, sympathetic characters and I cannot say how much I loved this story. The plot was quick-paced and the time skips added to the story. Everything made sense, which is always an issue I have with time skips. Brad and Celine's relationship had enough time to marinate so by the end, I truly felt that their relationship meant something to both of them. I felt the depth. It felt real. Honestly, Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute is YA but at time reads more maturely than some of the adult romances I read. Our characters may be younger, but they grow so much over the course of the story. I've already gushed enough about our characters but I loved the BEP storyline. I expected a bit more around this since three scholars would win a scholarship at the end, but the focus between high school and this felt just right. I fell in love with the other scholars and this helped our characters grow a lot. I was so happy to see Celine making friends with Aurora. My heart was happy to see a band of characters supporting and rooting for each other. One of my favorite scenes in this book was the birthday party for Aurora. I almost cried at how sweet it was, and I loved that Brad planned it all. He's a really great guy. This romance is great for ex-best friends to lovers fans. I loved seeing the dynamic at the beginning of the book between Brad and Celine only for the swoon worthy romance at the end. I was literally cheering while reading the end of the book. Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute is a five star read for me. The representation was fantastic. Hibbert did great with the mental illness factor in this story, and the family aspect was *chef's kiss*. I was fully immersed in our two young lover's story. I highly recommend Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute - you will not regret it, and I think I just found a new favorite author.

A delightful YA rom-com
I really enjoyed the Brown sisters books from Talia Hibbert, so I was excited to give her YA debut a go. I'm glad to say that Highly Suspicious and Unfairly Cute has all the same warmth and wit I've come to expect from Ms. Hibbert. When I read YA, my ultimate measuring stick is, "Would I recommend this book to my tween daughters?" It's a pretty high bar, especially for something romance-y, and this book definitely makes the mark. Smart yet perfectly imperfect main characters, surrounded by interesting and supportive friends. A fun friends-to-enemies-to-first loves, PG romance with a teddy bear of a leading man. Great body positivity and mental health rep for both MCs. I particularly loved following along as they are figuring out who they are and if what they are striving for (when it comes to school/career) is truly they want vs. what they think other people want. These are the type of themes I want my girls to read about! Yes, of course there's a HEA, as much as there can be one for 18 year olds. But it's not a fairy tale. These are real people digging into relatable challenges, showing resilience, supporting each other, and working to stay tuned in to their true selves. I also adored all the British-isms, and loved the handy glossary at the beginning. Super helpful for US teens that are new to Brit lit. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC, in exchange for this honest review.
