I disagree that mold in the mulch is good for the garden. Very disappointed that brand name “Scott’s “ mulch has large chucks of wood and white mold/ mildew. I find the “no name” brand at No frills to be better.

We do not sterilize the mulch as micro organisms are important to growing plants. Mold or fungus can develop under the right conditions. Typically if the mulch is too wet they will begin to grow. Poor Color
I bought 20 bags of this mulch and over half of them I opened up and some of the mulch in the bag wasnt even colored.

We recommend to mix the bags together to even out any color difference. Mulches are produced regionally at different plants and sometimes there may be 2 plants distributing to the same market. Wood material can vary slightly batch to batch and more so between plants. Because the wood material varies, how that wood absorbs the colorant will vary as well. Not Mulch!
If you want big sticks and large pieces of wood in your mulch, then this is the product for you. You may also get bonus rocks, plastic, and pieces of all kinds of stuff that is not wood mulch. Go with another brand.

Different mulch types
I purchased 100 bags of Scotts NatureScapes mulch in deep forest brown. Same bags and description but two completely different mulches. Some were very large shredded mulch while others were smaller sized with lots of bark (a much nicer, prettier mulch) which is what I wanted. Unfortunately it’s been spread and I’m not gonna change it now (too much time, money and effort). This is the second season I’ve noticed different mulch in same bags by Scott’s. That said I will have to open bags prior to purchasing in the future or choose a different brand. Scott’s should have better quality control across their mulch providers to ensure consistency of product.

Though rare, it is possible you may purchase products that were produced at two different plants, which can account for slight differences in color or composition texture. Also, different batches can have variations in texture and color based on the varying materials available. We will share your feedback with the appropriate department. Not a review but a Question I have always used Scott’s Products for the quality, recently I decided to plant a small plot with peaches and plums , get home with Scott’s natural scapes dark brown mulch and now some people are telling me It will kill my fruit trees or anything I put it around because it has some kind of chemical Not safe for any of my landscape is this true ? Always just used the regular mulch and wanted To give it some Color.

Not worth it
Purchased close to 100 bags of the black color fade gaurentee mulch last spring to finish our landscaping to suppress weeds and add organic matter to my garden. This never suppressed the weeds, I am now constantly pulling weeds and digging out mounds and mounds of mushrooms and fungus. The product has faded to grey not even a year later and the chunks of tree branches etc. are so big I can not see these ever breaking down. This created more work than it was worth and a very very expensive lesson to learn

Easy to Carry?
Your bag states that it is easy to carry. I do not know how you draw such a conclusion as it is no different than any other bag. How about you incorporate a plastic carry handle into the bag. Then you could state it is easier to carry.

Stinky and killing my plants
I bought 30 bags of the brown colorstay mulch. It stunk up my whole neighbourhood for 2 weeks- which says a lot as I live on an acre of land. The smell is finally starting to subside (unless it rains) and now most of my plants in the 100 foot bed are turning brown and losing leaves. It was the finishing touch on a 2 month project of digging out, planting and adding edging.
