I could feel my relationship with food souring.

I could feel my relationship with food souring while reading this book. Full of fatphobia and misinformation, this one is a must-miss. The introduction: Hateful, fatphobic terms, unreasonable and unhealthy speed of weight loss, wild misinformation, it's got it all. The whole premise of this hinges on fat=unhealthy and that everyone who is fat is so because they eat too much food and the food they eat is processed or fast food. It's just not true. She also makes some ridiculous claims about GMOs and non-organic produce that were...untrue to put it politely. Then there was the section on baby food that was super shame-y even if she claims it's not. The supplies: Far too many specific product recs. It felt like a blog post full of affiliate links and made me wonder if she was getting some sort of kickback on sales. Also almost every recipe uses an electric pressure cooker including for things that don't make any sense! The recipes: Every recipe is gluten free which would be great if this was a gluten free cookbook. It's not, so telling people trying to do things on a budget they have to go out and buy specialty flours is...super annoying. The recipes are often overly complicated and most don't sound interesting at all. The pictures are pretty, but that's the best I can say. I won't be making any of these. Overall: Save your time and money and skip this one. You'll be happier for it. If I could go back in time and not read this, I would. Thank you to NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for providing me with an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

How have I missed this series?

This is my first cookbook by Brittany Williams. I have heard of her books, but never got around to purchasing one - even though I love healthy eating and my Instant Pot. What in the world was I waiting for? I adore this cookbook! I can't wait to make Oat Bread and Minestrone soup. Plus there are lots of other recipes that are going in line to be made as well Thank you to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this cookbook.

It Was Just Okay

I was excited to receive this digital ARC, I don't know who Brittany Williams is so my request for this ARC is based on the subject. It was just an okay recipe book for me, it does have some helpful pointers on keeping budget tight and some recipes are quite delicious looking. I do wish there are nutritional charts, that would have been a great addition. Overall, this book is good for those who has the same dietary restrictions like the author.

I really like this cookbook!

I really like this cookbook! It's a beautiful book and very clean and well organized. The photos are gorgeous and make me want to try them right now! Another thing interesting about this cookbook is that it shows you how much the recipe costs! Most of the ingredients you might have at home if you're already trying to cook/bake using healthier options but if you're new to it, you will need to get stuff like coconut sugar, oat flour and almond flour. Seeing the kids eating red pepper as a snack was very cute and I love that they showed these moments in the book! I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Eating Healthy for Less $$

Instant Loss on a Budget will fill a need for a great many people. Anyone who has ever tried to diet can confirm that it is often more expensive than eating junk. Fresh vegetables, lean proteins and so forth are not inexpensive. However, Ms. Williams finds a way to truly make a dollar stretch while still providing healthy meal options in this book. I was quite impressed. This book offers meal plans that enable the reader to plan everything out in advance. Ms. Williams also gives tips on how to pick and choose the organic items you purchase. My only concern with this book was that she didn't provide any type of nutritional information for the recipes. I believe if she added that, this book would feel more on point. Other than that, it's a very informative cookbook with wonderful suggestions. Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I voluntarily chose to review this cookbook and the opinions contained within are my own.

Wonderful and Comprehensive!

‘Instant Loss on a Budget’ is a wonderful, comprehensive cookbook with a huge variety of mouthwatering recipes. The focus is on cooking with real foods in an economical way. The recipes contained are all gluten-free and dairy-free. There are a number of vegetarian recipes and recommendations for vegetable protein as well. This is really an all-in-one cookbook, which would be great for beginner cooks and anyone on a strict budget. At the beginning, there is a lot of handy information including: tips for saving money on groceries, sample menus including cost for each recipe, a pressure cooker cook-time cheat sheet, etc. Some of the recipes are pretty simple and standard American fare, but some recipes are more sophisticated and elaborate. Beautiful photography accompanies most of the recipes. I strongly recommend this one! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an ARC of this book.

Very Helpful Weight Loss Guide Book

Instant Loss on a Budget: Super-Affordable Recipes for the Health-Conscious Cook by Brittany Williams Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Genre: Cooking, Food & Wine Release Date: December 29, 2020 Instant Loss on a Budget by Brittany Williams is a guide an recipe book for weight loss foods that taste food and won't break the bank. There are 125 recipes that are all gluten-free and dairy free. I loved that most of the recipes included easy to find ingredients and don't require anything too exotic. Most of the recipes use a presser cooker or air fryer, but alternative cooking methods are also provided. I look forward to incorporating some of these recipes into my household menu, especially since they are better for me & my husband and will actually lower our grocery bill. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking to incorporate gluten- and diary-free recipes into their lives while still enjoying familiar favorites! Before you even reach the recipes, the author provides so much information, such as alternative protein sources, definitions of 'buzzwords', the differences between how meats are raised, and tips for shopping. I'm so grateful to Brittany Williams, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and NetGalley for providing me with a free copy of this ARC ebook in exchange for my honest review.

Not just a diet plan but a guide to healthy eating

“Instant Loss on a Budget isn’t about eating the cheapest foods out there, It’s about learning how to make an investment in your overall health and well-being that will yield a great return in the long run.” That’s the theme of Brittany Williams’ well-planned third cookbook. She shares how changing her diet started her amazing weight loss journey but this is not another diet book. It’s a guide to healthy eating for an entire family, with tasty, nutritious meals that appeal to children (Brittany and her husband have three) and are suitable for those on gluten and dairy free diets. After sharing her favorite easy, quick meals and snacks, Brittany provides four weeks of three meal a day menus. This isn’t a unique idea but each week has its own shopping list. How easy is that? The recipes follow. The food is gorgeously photographed and the instructions easy to follow. In addition to the expected categories, there are recipes for healthy cocktail party appetizers. After the final dessert recipes, Brittany has added the method to make many of her basic kitchen staples. The meal plans in Instant Loss on a Budget are designed to save money, something that will appeal to all families. Many of these recipes are made with an Instant Pot, an appliance that Brittany, a young mother who homeschools, uses to save time. Just as she writes that a NutriBullet can substitute perfectly for a Vitamix, I’m sure a Dutch oven can be used. However, InstantPots can be found for under $100 on Amazon and Walmart. This cookbook is a must buy for anyone who wants to make their diet healthier and especially those who avoid gluten, dairy and sugar. 5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt and Brittany Williams for this ARC.
