Lovely table - challenging directions

This is a nice little table that I purchased for dining on our screened porch. I love the fact that it's a drop leaf table - which works perfectly for just my spouse and me - and when my son comes home for a weekend - it provides great flexibility. It also looks great with the stacking wicker chairs I purchased for dining on the porch. The only reason I gave it 4-stars is because my husband had a LOT of difficulty putting it together - the directions weren't exactly right - and of course there were "extra parts" when he was finished. I don't understand why directions/instructions for assembly aren't "tested" by people with an average IQ so the manufacturer knows they are correct. It seems so simple, yet it's very frustrating - and we are both at the master's degree level and higher. Go figure!!
