Witches, Demons, and Mystery… SO NO MORE
Before reading this book, I was already a huge fan of Kerri, so when I heard she was coming out with a new series that involved witches, demons, and the supernatural… my heart may have skipped a beat with gleeful joy. This book was great to read, it was fun with Emilia’s banter with Wrath and with the scenic background of Sicily, it was like stepping inside the book. Emilia definitely had a lot to overcome in this story due to the loss of her twin Victoria, who was brutally murdered. Emilia set out to do everything possible in order to get clues that would lead her to finding the culprit who took away her precious sister. I loved the mystery aspect of this story because, while Emilia was trying to figure out who was behind the death of her twin, it felt like I was trying to piece together the mystery as well, and I felt like a detective. Emilia was a strong female character ( which is something I’m always intrigued to read) who didn’t let others dictate what she set her mind to. Emilia’s strong love for her family also motivated her to solve the mystery because, she didn’t want anyone else getting hurt. As the story progressed, it only got better with the arrival (cough) sorry I meant, with the summoning of Wrath, one of the Princes. Wrath was a man (demon) who, in the beginning, didn’t like Emilia. I would categorize Emilia and Wrath as “enemies to… something more” in this story due to them not necessarily getting along at the start of the story. As the story went along though, Wrath liked to tease Emilia for his own amusement, and you could tell that Emilia and Wrath shared an attraction towards one another, albeit they were sometimes butting heads, there were some tender moments that I appreciated to see between the two. Through out the story, Kerri did an amazing job incorporating the other Houses of Sins, a.k.a. Wrath’s brothers, who were also princes. I liked the supernatural aspect to the story because, 1) it was a departure from Kerri’s other series, which I loved by the way, 2) the story included fascinating characters that made me want to know more. Another thing I loved about this book was, while it is the first in a new series, I had a feeling that just by reading the first few pages and chapter that this series was going to change in a new direction such as, more new adult (wink) (wink). Kerri has already confirmed that the sequel will be new adult and I’m excited to read what she’s cooked up in terms of the romance, spice, and passion that’s bound to happen with Emilia and Wrath. Overall, if you’re a fan of Kerri’s book, love anything supernatural such as, witches and demons, mystery, romance, and more, I would highly recommend reading this book!

Great mystery
Simply by hearing the title of this book, Kingdom of the Wicked, I know the author, Kerri Maniscalco, has created a book as intoxicating as a cold glass of lemonade on a hot summer day. To give the readers a better feel for the setting, the book includes a map of the evil underworld breathing under the feet of the streghe, witches living amid humans. Listing this book under fantasy was no mistake, it includes demons, witches, vampires, and so much more. If you ask me, I prefer novels such as this because I read to escape from reality. Fantasy, in my opinion, is the best way to do this. The novel’s external conflict is about a sister, Emilia, on a quest to solve her sibling Vittoria’s murder. However, the secrets go so much deeper than Emilia could imagine. Emilia realizes the many secrets her sister has when she finds her diary glued shut with a dark spell. From the beginning, the readers are introduced to a potent mystery and convinces us to read on. Along the way of this journey, Emilia has some helping hands. But who can she trust? The one who seems the most reliable even though she’s grown up with a completely different view of him, or the ones she’s known her whole life that have been hiding unbelievable secrets? The suspense makes me want to read on, I finished it in two days! Things that Emilia first believed to be true are not, the unknown is what keeps me on the edge of my seat. Kingdom of the Wicked is a bundle of twists and turns, but if I were to classify these forks in the roads, I would say that the book is mostly about revenge. Throughout the entire novel, Emilia has her heart set on justice for Vittoria, and she is willing to do whatever it takes to get just that. The bond these two twin sisters share is a comforting and sweet factor amongst the others. As it turns out, Emilia is not the only one with vengeance in her heart, our secret antagonist also has envy-filled intentions. Surprisingly, the book contained two mysteries intertwined. The so-called “external” mystery, the one going on above ground, contained an unpredictable murder. Meanwhile, the “internal” mystery contained a jealous prince and a series of puzzling events. Since I enjoy mysteries, this was a great book for me. I also thought the bond that the twins shared was sweet and shockingly realistic because they annoyed and loved each other. Although the search for clues and the realizations are exciting, the book ends on a regrettably confusing note. I like to have closure in a mystery, a summary of all the important details leading up to the conclusion. For example, at the end of the novel, Emilia’s companion is a stranger to her. She is talking about the person she spent the entire novel with and even developed a “friendship” with. However, at the end of the book, something happens and now they are no longer “friends.” I don’t understand what happened and it bothers me constantly. I have read the ending multiple times and the book hasn’t shed any light. Perhaps, the next novel will. Unfortunately for many of my fellow hooked readers, the next book in this series does not come out until late 2021. Overall, I would reread and recommend this book, possibly closer to the release date of the second novel. Most of Kingdom of the Wicked was entertaining and fun to read, but the end was like a bitter taste after a sweet treat.
