We really want to like this highly rated slow cooker more than we do. We like the capacity it offers with its large oval shape, and it maintains consistent heat throughout every surface. The additional side handles built into the ceramic insert are convenient and make it very easy and safe to separate from the outside main heating section for cleaning. The stamped measured volume line on the inside of the ceramic bowl is also very handy. We also like having the cord management feature for storage. The digital programming and push buttons make it easy to use. However, it does need some improvements. The biggest problem for us is the glass lid's seal not being secure. All it would take would be some kind of silicone gasket ring around the outside edge to form a better seal with a couple of small ventilation holes for the escape of excess steam. But, the lid just rests on top of the ceramic insert and being slightly narrower results in a lot of heat consistently escaping during the cooking process especially when it goes to the "keep warm" setting, which we find does NOT keep very warm most of the time and requires us to re-heat the food (usually using our microwave to save time). Another problem is when cooking food where the recipe does not call for any additional liquid or broth of any kind (such as chicken thighs), the result of the cooking leaves the food very dry. We believe there is a requirement of added liquid needed for this cooker, regardless of whether a recipe calls for it, as indicated with the "Minimum" line stamped on the inside of the ceramic bowl. This is probably due to the fact that so much moisture escapes from the non-sealed lid. Overall a good cooker, but so often we gravitate to using our old cooker mostly, especially when we need the food to stay warm for longer periods. One other minor issue is the very low volume of the beep that is made when the cooking process is completed. The digital display does include a counter that starts to count up (representing elapsed time) once the cooking process is complete, but for those who rely more on the audible notification, like us, we wish that the sound was more pronounced. When deciding to purchase this cooker, we thought it would allow us to get rid of our old one, but felt we needed to hold onto it for the "keep warm" reliability and moisture capture ability it provides still. This cooker falls short of being the single solution for all of our slow cooker needs. So close!

Disappointed
I have major issue with the lid. Heat escapes form the lid. There is half inch gap on both side of the lid. I have reached on seal for the lid. I have reached replacing the lid with a after market. Now I'm reaching out to kitchen Aid for help. I have a lot of your appliances and this one is very disappointing.

Great Slow Cooker!
I've used this a few times over the last few weeks and it cooks with even heat all around the insert, which is different than my old slow cooker that started scorching on one side. I've checked the temperature at the different settings on the new unit and they are rock solid over time. I haven't quite figured out which setting is the equivalent of my "high and low" selection on my old slow cooker (I never measured the temps on my old cooker), so there's a learning curve to get things to turn out the same as my old cooker - sans the scorching part. The exterior of the new unit runs much cooler than my old one, which is a plus. I did my research before purchasing the Kitchenaid, and my experience thus far matches the high reviews it received. My only complaint is that it has a smaller volume than my old cooker so my recipes need to be adjusted.

Great slow cooker
(This review was collected as part of a promotion.) I bought this slow cooker to replace my 35 years old one. This Kitchenaid one was highly recommended by ATK. No regrets! Just need to familiarize myself with the 3 settings as my old one only had 2 settings.
