COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN (I'M ALREADY REREADING IT)

I found this book completely unopened in a thrift shop and the beautiful cover made me take it home. When I tell you I legit went home and COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. I finished the book that night then bought the second book and finished it as soon as it arrived. I fell in love with the characters and their tragedy. Not only did the friend I recommended it too fall in love with it but now my boyfriend is reading it and he also LOVES IT!

Worth the Read

There was a lot that I liked about this book. I loved the fantasy and the magic. The Under is amazing as well. It gave me some Labyrinth vibes. There was a lot of world building and character development, but I still felt like something was missing. I feel like there could have been more about Leta's family. And more about everyone's families and the Lord Under. Sometimes, I feel like Leta really is doing what's right and the best for everyone and other times, she annoys me because she wants to be the hero, and even though she's less experienced with the situation, she won't listen to anyone and just does what she wants to. It's really hard to root for her sometimes. I would have liked a little more from Arien. He seemed like such a young little boy at the beginning, but actually, he's pretty smart and older than he seems. And Clover was one of my favorite characters but we don't get too much from or about her.

eh

I know this is quite a popular book and I was so excited to read it and everything but I actually found it quite boring, lol. maybe I need to give it another try but I just couldn't get into it! I normally read more high-stakes fantasy so maybe that's why I was just so bored with how slow this book was going. I really loved the whole concept of it and everything but seriously, it was SO SLOW This book is described as "A gothic fantasy about monsters and magic, set on the banks of a cursed lake." which is quite literally what it is. now that sounds REALLY interesting, but if you're like me and like more fast-paced books, this isn't for you The main character, Violeta Graceling, arrives at this "haunted" Lakesedge estate. Where a ton of fairytale monster are there and essentially end up just wanting to "woo" Violeta (wink wink get the hint) Leta ends up getting attached to Rowan, who she later discovers is bound to this mysterious lord death god whos lurking in the lake. I don't NOT recommend this book, but just note that its quite slow for most of it until it gets a little more high-paced, overall not my favorite, but I'm thinking i might just need to give it another shot :)

Stunning

Oh My Gosh Lakesedge was just fantastic. The entire book had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next. This whole book was exciting and intriguing to read. The characters are amazing the plot is just gripping. Lakesedge was the perfect book to have read this fall season. It has me really looking forward to more stories by the author to see if they can create the same since of intrigue as it did. Everything about it had me going back to it when ever I had to put it down. I took my time with it so I would be able to take in everything and not miss a thing. This is a book I will recommend and be happy to reread over again. Their was just something about it that will grip a reader in it's metaphorical hands and won't let go till the end. Lots of things happen that had me gasping and putting my nose to the page because I couldn't stop reading. All in all a 5 star book

Aesthetic, Ambiance, Everything!

I read Lakesedge at the end of 2021, and I am still obsessed with it a year later. My boyfriend got an earful when I finished this one; I could not shut up about how Lyndall Clipstone had just written the most beautiful and captivating YA gothic novel. As an avid fan of gothic literature, I felt lucky such a novel had fallen into my hands. There are many things to love about this novel: the writing style is elegant yet legible, the romantic tension is awkward yet passionate in the best way, and the characters are all so easy to love. Add all these things together AND include a scary yet sexily intimidating villain, and you have my entire heart. I was seriously so obsessed with this read when I finished it! I wanted to bake cherry tarts and wear lacy dresses in flower fields. The aesthetic, the ambiance, and the overall story of Lakesedge captured me like a hungry monster, and I was the naive young girl who was willing to accept her fate, much like our relatable protagonist.

A creepy, gothic YA fantasy

Lakesedge was a mixed reading experience for me. The author showed a lot of creativity in terms of the setting. I loved the eerie, atmospheric, isolated gothic mansion on a lake filled with spreading corruption, a secret garden and creepy woods. The dark magic was fascinating, and I would have loved more background on it. The main characters felt flat to me and there was a lot of ruminating inner monologue from Violeta. Rowan was just brooding most of the time. Both had a heavy self-sacrifice trope. I really liked the side characters and wish they had been better developed. First person narration was not the best choice since we were inside Violet's head instead of experiencing different perspectives. The plot was repetitive and often stalled instead of moving along, making the book hard to get through. My favorite parts were those involving the sinister Lord Under and his dark realm. He was reminiscent of Hades, and I could have read an entire book about him. There is a cliffhanger ending involving Lord Under and this makes me want to read the sequel as he will likely feature more prominently in it.

I enjoyed this

Truly enjoyable. Decently paced and the romance is quiteeee something. Only thing I wish would be more of Rowan's character, we do learn about him however to me not enough. Everything was jumping around with different memories (not confusing) just no order. The main reason I enjoyed it was the romance, it was sweet and poetic at times towards the middle to ending chapters. I'll be reading the second book hopefully soon. Happy Reading :)

Love it

When Lord Sylvanan stumbles upon Violeta and Arien while Arien’s shadow magic manifests, he whisks them away to his estate. The Lord has hopes that the boys shadows will aide him in removing a curse on his lands. This story is full of dark, blood magic and spells. Secret bargains made with the Lord Under only adds to the difficulties our eclectic cast of characters must face. Of course there’s a bit of romance too. The entire book is very eerie and atmospheric. It also has some major Hades and Persephone vibes going on too. I should also mention that the cover art for Lakesedge is absolutely gorgeous and completely captures the feel of the book. I devoured this book in a day and cannot wait to read book 2, Forrestfall. Be warned, Lakesedge ends on a major cliffhanger! I’ll be getting my copy as soon as possible because I need to know what happens next!
