As one of LEGO's first botanicals, the bonsai tree is still one of their best. I've had it for two years now, and it still makes me happy every time I look at it. While pretty repetitive, the build was still interesting, and the final tree is stunning. Despite its intricacy, it is still structurally sound, and the two foliage types are a fun bonus. The pink leaves are my favorite, and I absolutely love the 100 frogs they incorporate.

very pretty build. however. absolute ragebait to put together. there are. 101 tiny pink frogs. that need to be painstakingly placed. meanwhile the tree is busy falling apart and the random loose pieces serving as gravel are going everywhere. but who cares its pink and aesthetic.

Amazing Lego it's so fun to build. It's so cool because we watch karate kid and it's just like from the movie which is so amazing.

Gorgeous concept & building the base/stand was good and fun. However, there are a number of steps where the pictures are incorrect or unclear. The end result is okay. Sadly, it was a disappointing build.

27 days agoThe starter for a collection on Asia travel
I had the opportunity to live in Japan and travel through parts of Asia, and during my travels I collected a number of display pieces and currency [that I framed]. When I began building botanicals few years ago, the first set I actually put together was the bonsai tree and it was through this set that I discovered enjoyment and something therapeutic about assembling the pieces in a way that has been consistent with all of the botanicals. Since then, I've incorporated a number of the botanical sets and a few other sets into a full wall display that includes set 10344 [lucky bamboo], set 10343 [mini orchid], set 10281 [bonsai tree], set 10348 [Japanese red maple bonsai], set 10373 [mini bonsai trees] and set 40725 [cherry blossoms, 4 since I've put into two small oriental vases], as well as set 10369 [plum blossom], set 10368 [chrysanthemum], set 80112 [spring festival dragon], set 80117 [spring festival good fortune], set 40756 [Chinese festival lucky knots], and set 21041 [Great Wall of China]. Lego has been developing a lot of sets that can easily display as part of world travel and highlight not only the many fascinating locations around the world but also world cultures, and although I consider myself more of a Lego "naturalist" I've been enjoying building these types of travel displays, mixing Lego creations and other items I've collected [including a smaller collection I've built based on a past travel to England]
