Too heavy and stiff fabric

I live in Florida and was looking for a cotton jacket for cooler weather in winter here. This jacket looked cute online so I ordered my usual size Medium. When I received it and tried it on, it was quite heavy and the cotton fabric was very stiff. I don’t understand how a company would make jackets with this stiff cotton fabric for women to wear. I returned it.
