Brilliant

I purchased this book for my college class and was told to write an essay about the theme of the book. I’ve written many essays in high school about the Holocaust and I always got bored talking about it in class because after so long of learning about it, it starts to get boring. However, this book gave me an entirely new interpretation of the Holocaust. The author was able to give readers a view of what it was like in the eyes of a Jew.

(Jasmine Cova)Keeps you on the edge of your seat..

The author's purpose of writing this book was to share his father's experience during the holocaust. The author definitely accomplished this along with awesome graphic design showing us exactly what they experience and with expressing the emotions through the character very well. The target audience would have to be for me; young adults.Kids wouldn't typically read much books involving any type of history or chapter books, but with Maus they were giving a comic book that they would find easy to read and more approachable. The book is pretty special because it mentions everyone they crossed paths with and helped out big time. The honorable mention of these people who went through so much and still helped out everyone around them. His father voice is definitely heard also Artie kinda expressing how difficult it was living with a holocaust survivor. The person who was silenced for me was Mala, another survivor that had to deal with difficulties of living with Vladke (father) even though they experience the same thing, he still treated her very poorly. I would love to hear more of her experience it would be great to hear a women's pov. This book is typically something I wouldn't go for, but it really taught me to be open to different type and styles of books. It held my attention and I never wanted to put the book down with constantly keeping you on the edge of you seats with constant "what will happen next".I would consider this useful in school, a way for kids to learn about history which they would like it's fun and something that would grab their attention. Not a really something a reader could relate to, but something could really feel and understand because it is described perfectly. It is very easy to understand and gets straight the the points, sometimes he says things like "but they never came back." "Only wait out was through the chimney's and I guess he found his way out." but we understand what it means using context clues.Overall, I liked the book the book and would recommend to others it was the type I did not want to put down with many emotions running through my body about everything these people went through.

Perfect visual and verbal title

I knew the history of the Holocaust. This book shows the depth of the emotional as well as the physical aspects of the struggle for survival and the multitude of challenges faced by our Jews. It was not new learning about the cruelty of the Germans to the Jews and many others. It was new seeing the cruelty of the Jews towards other Jews, and Art’s cruelty to the black man hitchhiking. Very insightful.

A valuable resource for all ages

With all that's going on the world, this book, packed with details in a readable style for all ages, is a must read. If it teaches a few how to recognize oppression and loss of rights and identity, the readers will be better for it.

Not Your Usual World War II Book

I was disappointed with this book because I didn't feel it contributed much to my knowledge of the Holocaust. I thought it focused too much on Art's father and (then) current relationship with his son and wife. I was skeptical of a graphic book telling the story, and in my opinion, it only confirmed my skepticism. I did not get the emotional, though provoking experience I was looking for.
