What Louisa May Would Have Wanted

This book is officially my favorite version of Little Women I’ve experienced to date. It takes an already wonderful story and not only gives it the touchstones to draw in a modern audience, but allows the characters to grow and change into the people they can be now that our world has grown and changed. Also, Beth is okay, and for that I’m forever grateful. As I read the book, I couldn’t stop thinking “I hope my children are able to read this one day” and I think that’s all you need to know

Not the wholesome story you are expecting

This book has Louisa May Alcott groaning from her grave. This is supposed to be a early 3rd grade reading level and some of the topics addressed are in no way age appropriate.

Won't stay!

I bought several copies of Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy after watching a banned books week video with upper elementary students. This title hasn't spent one day sitting on the shelf, it is ALWAYS checked out!

Well done retelling!

It's a "modern retelling," meaning the story is told in a NEW way. It's not meant to be exactly the same as the original novel! This is a charming take on Little Women, and the characters are pretty true in spirit to their book counterparts. Just don't go in expecting to know how everything is going to go. (One specific I will mention... Only about a year of time is covered in this, meaning Amy remains a child, so don't expect her to have a romantic story.)

Not like the original

I bought this for my 11 year old who LOVES Louisa May Alcot and she dived right in excited only to be disappointed. "This isn't like the book at all!" She said. I was very shocked and dismayed to read that they made Jo gay. Not like the original.
