A Great Book About Creativity and Addiction
As with CARRIE and IT, I don't think any adaptation of this in any other medium successfully replicates yet another rare instance in King's early career when the most frightening elements of his storytelling comes from the most realistic antagonists. It's hard for me to think of a better example of an iconic author summarizing/exorcising his anxieties related to substance abuse, professional disenchantment, fan service, and the price of fame.

Had me glued!
I own a total of nine books by Stephen King. The way he writes is simply beautiful and always has me nervous, scared, and excited. Misery is a well written book. The way Annie switches personalities makes the reader wonder, "who is she going to be today?" The way Paul's life becomes influenced and overpowered by Annie was illustrated beautifully by Stephen King. I ended up reading 250 pages in one sitting, which always tells me that it was a an excellent book.

Gripping plot and notable quotes
"Misery: A Novel" is a psychological thriller written by Stephen King. The plot of the book centers around Paul Sheldon, a successful novelist who is rescued from a car crash by his "number one fan," Annie Wilkes. Annie takes Paul to her remote home, where she nurses him back to health after he breaks both his legs in the crash. However, as Paul recovers, he realizes that Annie is not as kind and caring as she initially seemed. Annie is a psychopath who becomes enraged when she learns that Paul has killed off her favorite character, Misery Chastain, in his latest book. She demands that Paul bring Misery back to life and write a new novel featuring the character. Paul is trapped in Annie's home and must do her bidding in order to stay alive. As he works on the new novel, he realizes that he must find a way to escape before Annie's obsession with Misery leads her to commit even more violent acts. Here are a few notable quotes from the book: "Writing is a lonely job. Having someone who understands that, who understands the isolation, who understands the need to get it right, who understands the need to create something out of thin air, is a rare and wonderful thing." "We all have a private monster, don't we?" "She was a reader. She read books the way some people smoke cigarettes or drink whiskey: compulsively, hungrily, because she couldn't help herself." "You know what the trouble with real life is? There's no danger music." "He was a writer, and as such he was used to being alone. But this was a different kind of alone, and it was making him uneasy."
