As if Stranger Things & Creepy Pasta made a book

This book is the perfect mix of the first season of Channel Zero mixed with some Stranger Things vibes. Then throw in a cult like documentary and you get a perfect idea for this book. Which I hands down loved. This book went places I never could expect and more. This is the first book by this author that I have read and I WILL BE READING MORE now. It did take some time for things to start making sense, so keep reading but while I waited I was enjoying the ride and loved getting everything answered.

Magic Man

Val doesn’t remember much of her childhood. Especially her time on the Mister Magic tv show. After her dad's death, her cast mates show up to take her to the Mister Magic reunion. Val hopes this trip will help her remember her childhood and the mysteries that surrounded Mister Magic Show. This is a slow burn book. The mystery and all the questions surrounding Mister Magic will keep you interested in how it ends. The end was surprisingly good if you stick with the book through the end. The author also explains everything while keeping it simple and not rushing through it.

Creepy Yet Uplifting

3.25 stars This was a wild ride of a story. Part Mandala Effect part magical mystery. Seeing these childhood friends unravel their own memories and working together to solve the mystery of the Mister Magic TV show was such a trip. You really have to suspend reality and I admit I was a little confused at parts, but it eventually all came together. After listening to the author's note at the end (read by Kiersten herself) a lot of the story really made sense. It's more of a fantastical dissertation on organized religion (she used to be Mormon) than a thriller. I go in blind, so after I finished and had a better idea of what the book was about and why she wrote it, it may deserve to be upgraded to 3.5.

Mister Magic is a supernatural thriller that did not disappoint. The book was a page turner from beginning to end and the mystery will keep you guessing. This author wrote this book so well and I can wait to read more of her books. I highly enjoyed reading this and would recommend this book to other readers who like horror.

One in a Billion

It’s incredible how this book went completely over some people’s head, like the person who gave this book 1 star (did you take any English/Literature class in school?). I read this book in two days and is one of the best books I have ever read. I could go on and on about how this book impacted me, changed my point of view on childhood nostalgia, religion, conforming, etc. But I’ll just go to say that this book is for everyone that has ever went through something. This book is just for anyone in general. And I will continue to rave about this book.

Mister Magic

This book was a significant waste of my time. One thing for sure is this is certainly not Horror by any means. The only thing I liked about it was the very cool book cover. Thanks to Goodreads for the free copy to read and review.

I didn't want to put it down

4.5 stars Spoiler-free review video is up on my channel @BookedPanda. The description of this book was great and left you wanting to figure out what was going on. Also, the cover of the book is just the right vibe. This description didn't give us who our character would be which is different. Mister Magic follows the Circle of Friends thirty years after the events that shut down the popular show. Even though we see all five friends we are only really ever in Val's perspective. There will be intermittent chapters that you can see only the others but it is more that you are being told about what they are doing or feeling. The other members of the circle are Isaac, the responsible one; Marcus, the dreamer; Javi, the mischievous one; and Jenny, the supportive friend. As adults, they have stayed mostly the same rules. Isaac became a P.I.; Marcus kept acting (for a while); Jenny is a stay-at-home mom (of six kids) but Javi became a lawyer. Val has been separated from the circle for the last thirty years. However, she doesn't remember that. Her memory starts close to age eight at the ranch she grew up on. Val still works at the ranch with kids during the summers and as help through the rest of the year. At the ranch with her dad her whole life. She is stubborn to work towards what she wants or thinks is right for the kids. But she feels a deep sense of shame over something she can't remember, just a vague notion that she hurt someone. The urge to find answers and not give in to the guilt is most of what motivates Val's actions throughout the book. The story itself moves forward as the Circle has found each other again. This was a planned reunion that just happened to find and include Val at the last minute. As the others explain there is a podcast being produced to talk about the show Mister Magic. Val wants answers to what happened thirty years ago. As they get closer to the town of Bliss where the show was filmed only more answers pop up. No one can remember what happened on the last day. No one can tell Val why she left. However, plenty of people blame her for everything going wrong. This book is full vibes. There were so many instances of almost normal things but the creepiness was just coming off the page. Other times there were very obvious this is not natural happenings; at which the book might cut a cliffhanger chapter ending. Oh, the pain of waiting for answers over the course of so many abrupt stops. Another feeling that was pretty strong was that of lost happiness. That if only the adults could go back to this magical point in their childhoods then they would be happy again. But all the memories they have of that point are glossed over with age really. This is probably true for most people. I must say that the ending of this book is a bittersweet thing. Not going to spoil it just leaving it like that. The truths that the circle finds are a very neat take. I'm proud of myself for guessing something similar enough to say I called it.
