Jackson's characters and their heart-wrenching story linger long after the final page, urging readers to advocate for those who are disenfranchised and forgotten by society and the system. (Publishers Weekly, "An Anti-Racist Children's and YA Reading List") From the critically acclaimed author of Allegedly, Tiffany D. Jackson, comes a gripping novel about the mystery of one teenage girl's disappearance and the traumatic effects of the truth. Monday Charles is missing, and only Claudia seems to notice. Claudia and Monday have always been inseparable - more sisters than friends. So when Monday doesn't turn up for the first day of school, Claudia's worried. When she doesn't show for the second day, or second week, Claudia knows that something is wrong. Monday wouldn't just leave her to endure tests and bullies alone. Not after last year's rumors and not with her grades on the line. Now Claudia needs her best - and only - friend more than ever. But Monday's mother refuses to give Claudia a straight answer, and Monday's sister April is even less help. As Claudia digs deeper into her friend's disappearance, she discovers that no one seems to remember the last time they saw Monday.

Sure to have you clinging to every chapter !

Tiffany D. Jackson never writes a book without a heavy message and this one is definitely no exception. This story broke my heart in so many ways because what happens in this book isn't just fiction, but reality for far too many children. Jackson explores neglect, abuse, and the failures of the system put in place to protect kids is devastating but its also necessary because these stories deserve to be told. Claudia’s determination to find Monday was so raw and relentless. To the outside world it might have seemed like Monday drifted away, needed space, or just didn't want to be friends anymore, but Claudia knew better because she knew her. Monday wasn’t just her best friend, but like her sister, so she knew something was wrong, and watching her try so hard to get the adults to listen, only to be constantly brushed off was so frustrating, but that's kind of the entire point. Children are told to go to adults when something is wrong. To trust their teachers, to talk to their parents, but what happens when the adults don’t listen or dismiss them entirely? This book is an example of that reality. Even if a child is being "overdramatic" or “ just being a kid” every concern should be taken seriously. Children deserve love, they deserve safety, and to be believed. Honestly both Claudia and Monday were failed by the people who were supposed to protect them. The aftermath of that loss and what it did to Claudia mentally and emotionally- was so painful to witness, but unfortunately we exist in a society where it is normal to mind your business than to step in when something looks off. This story serves as a reminder that it really takes a village to raise a child, but that village has to actually show up. As featured in Collected Chapters Ep. 1 – YT: @CammyBeReading

Emotion-jerking story

Great read. However, slow paced and kind of frustrating at certain points. Most of the book you're wondering; What happened to Monday? And you start to question everyone around her. Has decent representation of the D.C, Maryland, Virginia area as well! Will check out the author other works.
