Very good!

My first training shoes and I love them: very comfortable, fit perfectly, and increases stability and traction compared to running shoes I used to work out. Hopefully they last reasonable time.

Better than you expect

After trying the Metcon 4, Free X Metcon and the Tech Trainer, and not finding something that is perfect for my weightroom/HIIT/cardio training, I begrudgingly tried the Free TR 8. To my surprise, they are much better than expected. I actually got the University edition (named Free TR8). I have wide feet and these housed them perfectly, with lots of room for your foot to splay. The Free midsole is firm enough for heavy weight lifting yet still right for some treadmill running. Some may find slipping on the shoe a bit challenging, since it is a one-piece with no tongue, but I love the tightness of the uppers. Overall, comfy enough to walk around and pound out a good workout. The only things I would change would make the laces thicker (stock thin laces are tough to pull tight and feel like they will cut your fingers) and reduce the heel to toe drop to 3-4mm. I am unclear with the drop is but feel it is closer to 6-7mm.

Awesome for the gym but one issue

I would love to give 4+ star review but the shoe lace holes wore down within 2 months after starting to use. I only wear these shoes 3 days a week for the gym and the plastic where the shoe laces go through wore down and broke already. (I would upload a picture but am not able to as Nike doesn’t have that capability here in their reviews platform). That defect aside, the shoe is most comfortable training shoe I’ve worn from Nike. Love being able to do gym workouts (squats, sprints, lunges etc) and also use for straight ahead running on the track and treadmill. Style and Comfort - 4.5 Durability - 3.0 Im 6’4” and 230lbs.

Good shoes till they broke

All around great shoes until they broke. The plastic holes used for the top two shoelace holes on each side completely teared to the top, so I can no longer tie the shoes tight. Just left with the bottom few rows of laces connected to the toebox. Noticed tue tear starting after a month of use. Then after two months was totally torn.

Great all-around training show

It's a more solid version of the Nike Free. Perfect for cross-training. Light and flexible for cardio, but sturdy enough for lifting.... unless you're doing really heavy weight you might find it a bit soft. Also versatile enough to be worn as a casual shoe without looking like you came right from the gym.

Nothing wrong with the shoe, nothing good either (IMO!)

I got this shoe after having the TR V7, and while there's nothing wrong with it, it made me realize how much I hate these new free trainers that are tongueless "booties". Nike please go back to something like the Nike Free Trainer 3.0 V1 or Free Trainer 3.0 V3. Something with a sleek profile and not this amorphous, blobby-looking 1-piece "bootie" thing they are doing with all their Free Trainers (and some non-Free trainers). It was awesome when we sometimes had the choice of 3 types of Free Trainers: 3.0, 5.0, and 7.0 too. They started going downhill since V5 and now we're at this point where it's just a blob of a shoe with some hidden Flywire. I appreciate the attempt at texture, but it's superficial and the top and side profile is no good. Hopefully someone designing these trainers reads this. If you like the looks yourself, buy them. There's nothing wrong with them. Rant over.

Best training shoe

I had older version 5 of these, too small for me now, couldn't find a good replacement. I've been trying nearly every training shoe available in my size (12-12.5), including runners and basketball shoes. I have a wider foot, don't like shoes that are too long, need a bit of cushion but stable so I'm not sliding around in the shoe or struggling to maintain balance while I should be focusing on the exercise. This one fits perfectly at 12.5, it's firm enough but slightly more cushion than Metcon, very comfortable, light and flexible but still very stable with good grip and maintains shape well. I wasn't crazy about the plastic side supports, but when I tried the V7 model it wasn't as good a fit or as comfortable. Very much worth the effort and price, highly recommended.
