Haunting and Twisted

Lizzie Oullette is a lonely and unpopular girl in a small Maine town, stuck in a dead-end marriage, able only to dream of bigger and better things, pouring her heart into the lakehouse she rents out to the more fortunate. And Lizzie has been murdered in an unfathomably gruesome way. The chase is on to find out who did it and why they would commit such an atrocity. The police have little to go on, but they immediately suspect the rich couple who had taken up renting Lizzie's lakehouse, particularly the wannabe-instagram-famous woman Adrienne Richards. The book is actually quite direct on that point: Adrienne IS guilty. And yet, there is an entire story behind it. A story of a murder investigation, of Adrienne's efforts to hide her crime, and the details of the night gradually unfurling to answer the looming questions of why and how. This is the book that revitalized the spark in me. It had been a while since I'd been able to concentrate long enough to read a book. But, I could not put this one down. I felt so sad for Lizzie, especially knowing her fate from page one. She's a woman with big dreams stuffed into a small world, and you want the best for her even knowing she doesn't get it. Adrienne is the character you love to hate-- superficial, vain, selfish, and concerned with appearances more than showing any individual substance. And let me tell you, the twist is CRAZY. If you see it coming, you are a first-rate book detective.

Different Kind of Page Turner

No One Will Miss Her was quite the page turner for me--not because it was intense but more because Kat Rosenfield took me one direction and then suddenly threw me into another direction with the truth. Lizzy has had a tough life, starting from a young age. Folks in her small home town do not like her, do not notice her, and really have nothing to do with her. Along comes rich Adrienne and Ethan to rent Lizzy's lake cabin, and Lizzy is sucked into the rich couple's life. Soon Lizzy is modeling herself after her. Suddenly Lizzy is dead, shot to death in her own cabin and the investigation begins. Kat Rosenfield gave me many surprises. With an incredible writing style that is both descriptive and humorous, I was hooked from page one.
