Smooth-Edge Can Opener

Web ID: 105847I actually received this can
I actually received this can opener in replacement of the one I had that was malfunctioning. I am very appreciative of axo, being so generous and completely replacing my original can opener. However, I must say the new 1 has done the same thing, the other one did, which is when I complete going around the can. One time the unit does not release from the can lid, so I reverse it one turn and then take it off. At that point there's a small piece of metal sticking out. This is the same thing that was happening with my original can opener. I may be doing something wrong, but I am pretty sure the directions suggest doing that reverse maneuver.

What works for me
Works well, kind of hard for me to use with arthritic fingers. Was actually looking for the double handed one. Thought that was what I ordered.

Rubbish
Failed in a few months. Turning the lever no longer engages the cutting edge. Into the garbage it goes.

Great smooth edge can opener
Love it. I have one in FL and needed a new one in DE. It is so easy and safe…. no sharp edges

Design changed for the worse
I had the prior version (pictured on this page) for a couple years and it worked great. Recently stopped working and Oxo sent me the new version under warranty. The new version is hit or miss, will only open about 1 out of every 4 cans, and the one it opens is not always completely open. Very disappointed in the redesign, please bring back the original.

The OXO Smooth Edge Can Opener is easy to use, saf
The OXO Good Grips Smooth Edge Can Opener is super comfy, cuts lids cleanly without sharp edges, and the built‑in lid gripper is brilliant—just takes a little practice to line it up right, but once you get it, it’s kitchen gold.

sent cheaper product under warranty
submitted a warranty on a 2 handled smooth edge opener(which i loved), they replaced it with a much cheaper model that has a single handle and much harder to use.

My favorite can opener.
I love this can opener. It cuts underneath the top edge of the can, and you use the claw attached to remove the lid. It is the only can opener that I use. Here are the two cons: 1) Over time, the surface of the can opner becomes gummy and unpleasant to the touch. I wish that the company use a more durable plastic. 2) It is a bit hard to line up the opener to the can. However, once it has the proper alignment, it is good to go. Despite these two drawbacks, it is still my favorite can opener.
